Henderson and Catania's relationship is public, even the bumps. When they challenge each other, it's been open and not nearly the gladiator type sparring with Rhree. They're also both DC-loving Hoyas of the same epoch. So if they couldn't get along, things would be really awkward on the Hilltop.

That said. Henderson's five year strategic plan started after Rhee left. She's been handed her boss's boundary plan and told to implement it now. She agreed to do it. But now she's faced with a potential boss who says "screw what you said you were going to do, start over and give everyone Deal middle school even though it hasn't been studied or funded. A bunch of people will be coming to your table to do the restart. I don't know how much they know about education. You'll figure it out." Or she could have a who would say "I got this education stuff for a little while. You can hold off on boundary changes and take another year to implement your strategy while charters are basically put on hold. Anybody who should be at the table is already there."

Henderson is a lot of things, but stupid is not one of them.

Which would you pick?

CATANIA!!!!! No offense, but my EoTP school is going down hill. That's not what I call progress. And quite frankly, you have a problem with candor and transparency that permeates DCPS central - especially on safety issues; that's a non-starter.

What exactly is Catania going to do for your EOTP school? Is he going to do any of the stuff that the peer reviewed research says works: guaranteed access to inbounds pre k(oh wait, the outgoing mayor has addressed that), targeted feedback for teachers, and proven curricula? I don't see any of that in his education "plan". I don't mean to suggest that Bowser will do any of that stuff either, but to suggest that Catania is going to trn your school around seems farfetched.

Not PP, but yes, that is exactly what I expect Catania to do, and why I am voting for him. He will make smart, incremental changes based on research and proven methods. Exactly the sort of stuff you are talking about. He has that kind of brain and motivations. Bowser will do none of that. She will hold some high level B.S. round tables and delegate the actual thinking to DCPS staff and Henderson. That's a big difference between the candidates.

Catania is just a lame lawyer and will go back to being a lame lawyer (for the construction industry or something?) after Tuesday. So get it over it white elitists of DCUM.

Hi Sinclair Skinner or someone channeling him.

Old time DCPS parent here now 2 in HS. Having actively worked on issues pre-Rhee only 1 stands out as thoroughly informed, fair, balanced and u afraid of unpopular decisions. That is CATANIA! Bowser has ducked and not smiled nearly as much as in her obnoxious constant smiley promos lately. Under Kaya the achievement gap has widened and Bowser is the fave for many Deal Wilson families cuz she's going to cut out W4 from feeding to Deal/Wilson yet has done. Of a single thing--herself--to address improving schools East of the River or anywhere in between. Catania has walked the walk and he is not warm and cosy--so what? Neither is Bowser but one has a record of looking out for everyone and one has a record of self promotion and loyalty to old cronies. Charm g as Marion Barry is, his endorsement of her is very clarifying. PLEASE u decided voters--vote for Catania!!

Catalonia boosters here should really rethink your strategy in supporting him. Bashing Bowser does nothing but drum up sympathy for her and portray him as a bully.

Good analysis.

Rings true; I buy it.

Thanks.

Bowser is connected to the most powerful interests is DC. She does not need sympathy and will be fine after the election. Vote Catania.

Where does his plan discuss the use of tested, proven curricula? Where does it discuss targeted feedback for teachers? Those are the proven methods for reducing the achievement gap. Catania'splan discusses things like reducing social promotion, which the research has found to be ineffective. It's nice that he has visited schools, but visiting failing schools doesn't teach you what works. You have to look at research for that.

I don't think its bullying to point out her lack of any substantial record in her years on the council or her complete lack of substance and specifics in her campaign. Vapid platitudes like she will get everyone around the table or listen to the best experts don't cut it with many voters. And, given the people she's surroundef herself with -- the Park Southern embezzlers and the Peaceabolics shadow campaign operatives -- we should have no great confidence in her personnel picking by skills either.

Catania is at Yu Ying right now -- he blew me away!

He's incredibly smart and informed on the issues. In my opinion, he is much stronger than the other candidates on education and every other issue.

I hope people go to the polls!

The other candidate stabbed her home Ward charter school in the back. Et Tu Muriel?

I agree, as does my annoying better half, who is nonetheless planning on voting for Muriel because she has the right "temperament" for the job. Since when did whether you'd like to have a beer with a candidate mean that they're the better man (or woman) for the job? Ugh.

Don't vote for an empty pant-suit! There's enough of that already in DC Gov't.
