| why would an adult need two new pairs of shoes a year? and what do you spend on shoes? |
buying clothes is not charity. that said, i never said i had a problem with the money OP spent (huh?). but the examples of the clothes given here are ugly and trashy. one can spend a lot of money on ugly clothes or beautiful clothes. |
Well you opened yourself up to critique by posting on this thread. Out of interest, what is your HHI? Because $5-8k is more than my family makes in a month (we have two kids and a comfortable lifestyle but do not spend much on clothes at all). |
Adults each get a pair of running shoes every year (we run a lot). DH only owns one pair of shoes at a time and they get very worn down after a year. We actually spend $100-150/pair but I would think the cheapest is about $50/pair. |

I probably spend more on clothes/shoes than I realize, but would be stunned if it added up to over $1,000 on average. For example, I was down in Orlando last month with my family, and was next to an outlet mall - so I probably bought 2-3 dress shirts, a belt, 3-4 polo type shirts and a bathing suit. Probably a few hundred+ right there. Then, sure, I'll buy dress shoes every 18 months or so and running/gym shoes probably every 12 months maybe. Then every 2-3 years get a nice suit and a few dress shirts.
But, yeah, not sure when you guys spend your money on. Now my wife may spend slightly more than me, but I don't think too much more. Our HHI is around $400K. |
lol. what? |
seems like a lot to me. Your shoes last less than 12 months? I have 7-8 pairs of shoes, most are 5+ years old. |

I think mine averages to about $100 a month. I usually shop twice a year for new/replacements for things worn out and spend maybe $300 each time, with a few Lands End orders scattered throughout the year. Also probably 1 or 2 new pairs of shoes a year (because shoes get worn out fast when you have a long walk commute, are active, etc.), and then the occasional bra/underwear/socks/tight restocking. This past Feb. I spent $100 on new socks and tights. I won't need to restock those for another 2 years maybe, but next spring I will probably need a bunch of new underwear and some bras.
Oh, and probably a new bathing suit this summer too, another $100 or close to it. It all adds up. |
| Hhi of about 150k. I probably spend about $100 month on me, plus about the same for the kids. My husband maybe spends half of that. |
Aigle rainboots, rain jacket, winter jacket. Ski things. Diving things. Denim skirt and shorts. Woollen skirts, tweeds, suits, jumpers. Clothes were well made back then. The really crazy thing is that after two children, these clothes still fit
|
No, but I really don't want to wear the same pair of ballet flats for five years. |
ok, well I am a male. My loafers look to be the same shit that sells now. |
Men's shoes don't compare to women's shoes in terms of how long they'll be worn. I too only have 5 pair of shoes but they'll all last for another 5-10 years assuming I keep taking good care of them and have the soles replaced |
You can't possibly be a married man or one who's ever had a girlfriend if this is even close to a serious question. |
| My wife doesn't buy more than 2 pairs of shoes a year. |
