Advanced academics is a subset of "gifted and talented" -- "gifted and talented" can include the performing and visual arts, etc. FCPS does not have such programs in the performing and visual arts. Thus the distinction.

The name was changed not because it wasn't intended to be a gifted program anymore, but to make it clear that it is a gifted program based on academics, but not for those gifted in the arts. While in practice it is just an accelerated academic program, on paper it is justified as a gifted program. Read the statute that authorizes the program and it is very clear on this issue.

I get that it is a hugely popular and successful program. Very happy witht eh instructors, curriculum and having DC around the other smart kids.
