Right. Common Core doesn't prescribe what is taught or how to teach it. It only sets standards of what children need to know at certain points. You obviously don't understand what "curriculum" means. The curriculum describes the planned interaction between teacher and students. The standards are minimum standards, or goals. They set expectations. |
On the Internet, no one knows you're a dog, pp. I have a Ph.D in education. Arne Duncan is the Secretary of Education. He says Common Core isn't a curriculum. It isn't a curriculum. |
New PP. There instance there isn't a sewing, cooking, or woodworking standard among the list. In say a Waldorf school, those standards are there. Thus, the common core is really a curriculum outline. |
Of course he says it isn’t a curriculum. That way, he can say that the US does not have a “national curriculum” (when in reality, it does - except in 5 states) |
What? CC is a floor. Do you want the floor lowered? |
Yes, I agree. CC is a floor--an old hardwood floor with rot and splinters. We need a new one. |
I am in Illinois and soon moving to NoVA. Trust me when I say that CC is an absolute nightmare!!!!!!! It's great for the very bright/gifted kids at the top of the range but everyone else is at a disadvantage. Forget about it if your child has a learning difference/disability, etc. They have no chance!!! |
And yes I am a mom to two with Aspergers. They are screwed with CC. I am waiting for a federal lawsuit to be filed-and I think there will be one. It just forces the bright kids with different learning styles to be pushed into direc instruction, resource room, etc which isn't the least restrictive environment and against FAFE. |
Another parent of a learning disabled child -- and PPs are so right. Common Core is TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE for those with special needs. My son despises school now, and I don't blame him. And it's like living in a dictatorship. Used to be, if you had a school or district that didn't fit the needs of your child, you could move. Now, you and your child are trapped as everywhere has these same inappropriate standards. There are no allowances for different learning styles in Common Core. |
Please, someone provide an illustrative example. Here's a suggested format:
Common core goal is [insert goal]. Previous way taught was [insert good old day method that apparently didn't work]. New method taught to achieve goal is [insert new method that everyone hates]. |
Dumb statement. Have you ever taught school? Teaching makes the difference-not a test. |
That is EXACTLY The point of common core. People are MUCH easier to control and indoctrinate when there are no other choices. |
The only choice will be home-schooling and grassroots groups that get together to create home schooling groups. But I can GUARANTEE you that this will be squashed dead as well somehow. I am glad my LD kid is in college now, and that my other two are not LD. One is starting her last year at private. The only child that would have been (and still might be) affected by this is my youngest, but he is in private and the school will handle it differently than public. It will take a while to control the privates anyway. By then my kids will all be out. I feel VERY badly for parents who have toddlers and young elementary kids. |
CC is about control, plain and simple. It's about destroying charters and private education. It's about indoctrination. |
What? Please answer my question and provide the example. I did not mention anything about a test. |
