Don't you mean you hate white people? I'm using the same logic as the poster who accused another poster of being racist because she believed SS schools are bad. |
DTSS is on the upswing, not the downswing. I wonder when Mexico City Lady last stepped foot anywhere in SS. |

There are people who live in northwest Montgomery County and don't work in DC! True fact! (Another true fact: lots of those people who live in northwest Montgomery County look like people you might see in Mexico City or Lagos.) |
Actually, there aren't a lot of Mexicans in the area. There are far more salvadorans, Hondurans, Nicaraguans, etc. All the "Mexican" restaurants are run by salvadorans. |
I'm curious, what were the specifics reasons for leaving your west of Rock Creek Park school? Also, do you mind naming the school? Thanks! |

We made the mistake of starting our DC-area journey in Silver Spring. I hated every second of it and now we are happy as clams in Bethesda. |
OP said they specifically chose Silver Spring because it is convenient for her DH's work. Northwest Montgomery County would be quite a commute for him during rush hours. Or are we no longer answering the OP's question? |
Let's be honest here. How is Blair outside of the magnet program? I'm aware that the magnet program makes the school look awesome. Suppose your child doesn't get into the magnet program now tell me about the non-magnet Blair. Is it still a good school? What are the social and academic elements at Blair for non-magnet students?
I hear all this talk about great elementary school in SS. That's all find, but kids grow up and they can't stay in elementary school until college. Please tell those of us who are considering to relocate to SS the real deal. I don't want the sugar-coated PC version either. What's the deal with the middle and high schools in SS? I want parents and individuals who have actual experiences to respond. Please no deflecting or harboring about magnets. If Blair didn't have a magnet program will you send your child there? When I look at the "School Safety and Security at a Glance" sections of certain schools in Montgomery County some of the schools really concern me as a parent. |
Please don't be vague. What were your concerns? Why was it a mistake? You may help other parents from making the same mistake by elaborating what went wrong. |
To 21:38 - some posters are sugar coating the elementary schools too. |
I can't speak to other elementary schools in Silver Spring but my DD goes to Oakland Terrace and we love it. She is white. We are professionals. It's an awesome school and I don't need to qualify that in any way. I am not sugar coating it. Its just a great place...super diverse in every sense of the word. Very international. Very involved parent community. Teachers and Principal are great. We feel lucky to have found it and you can't convince me there is a better elementary school in the county. If a person has a specific experience with a school in Silver Spring then that is one thing; I would venture to guess that most if not all of the people on this thread bashing SS and the schools have no recent experience with them and do not send a child to one. Having grown up here in the 1980's does not make you an expert in anything school related at this point. But OP if you want a super elitist environment, then no, this is not the place. |
bullshit I have NEVER, EVER said anything about "latino" and black people etc. that is crap. I don't even know what SES means. You must have me confused with somebody else. Frankly, DD want in a full-on hispanic daycare (on purpose). And now because she has not started kindergarten yet, she is on a preschool that is, well, full-on another culture but not "white" and I prefer not to specify. And I am so done explaining myself on here. Again, to all you, stop talking about what you don't know about. You don't know shit. And frankly, you all DCUMer transplants are the WHITEST OF WHITE AS RICE people I have ever heard speak in my life. And you are such hypocrites. You read the New York Times or listen to NPR or whatever and get on here starting very tacky and uncomfortable discussions about race because you are so not diverse you don't even know how to speak. Yuck. I am so glad you mostly live in DC so I do not have to associate with you people. That's right - YOU PEOPLE, and I am referring to you DCUM transplant people. |
Oakland a Terrace and Flora Singer and Woodlin are fine. Some of the other schools that have been mentioned aren't in the same category. Fair? |
