I make $23k and zero bonus. No Christmas gifts for any of us this year--just can't afford it. Happy holidays to all. |
Base 150k
Bonus 400k |
Base: Around $260k
Bonus: Around $40k It boggles my mind how much some people get in bonuses. Happy with what I have though. |
As someone with a Wall Street job in the DC area.... While bonuses can be substantial, there generally is much lower ( in many cases, no) job security and bonuses can be zero when things get bad, like we saw during the financial crisis. Not sure what these other people who get big bonuses do, but that's the case in finance. Sadly, all your hard work in the year comes down to one number.
I've learned to "live on your base, bank the bonus." People learned the hard way when living beyond their base. |
What agency do you work for that is giving bonuses? DH is SES and there are no bonuses this year. I'm not SES but would normally get a small bonus in Sept. We got nothing. Haven't had a raise in 3 years and health insurance goes up every year. Oh, and before people start with the free vacation BS, DH and I both worked during the shutdown. |
I've never had a bonus in my life. Current salary : $100k.
yes, I am a mid career professional with two masters degrees. |

Another +1 |
Uh OP, what are you clairvoyant? 2014? Last time I checked my calendar we were not done with 2013 yet! Here you are already anticipating and expecting what you will be receiving next year! Good for you! |
[quoteOP here. Look I know that I'm blessed and lucky to be in my position. Hell we give both sets of parents $1,000 to help them live a relatively middle class existence. We just bought my mother a Corolla after her 15yr old Corolla gave out. I travel a ton, the best part of my day is the DCUM off topic board and real estate boards.
Look OP, I don't want to hate on you, I really don't. But the way you started this thread, leaves us with very low regard for you! You may have a lot of money, but as far as class you are at the bottom! Enjoy your money and enjoy your life. I hope you also help out those in need, not including your parents.... your parents you should help regardless. |
+2. Pay off your house with the big bonuses because the zero years eventually get here. Working an entire year for zero really sucks. |
Well, threads like this convince me that above 300K, we need 50% tax. I make a healthy income...can support my family confortably with DD in public school, and my small 1960's house in a good neighborhood.
What is fun is people like you that spend every penny they earn, and then find out at 55 that the firm no longer needs them. Oh, and fwiw, my bonus went to medical expenses |
Does anybody know whether bonuses for SEC employees have been announced or if there are any at all this year? I haven't heard anything, but I don't know they've been announced and I just didn't get one. |
I think you were convinced of that before you read this thread because everyone knows this thread is hardly a representative sample. |
100k is not shabby, pp. don't let the comparisons against crazy high figures get to you. i topped 100k for the first time this year with my salary + bonus. i am quite pleased with myself and frankly i don't care to make 450k. sure it would be nice, but it's also nice to be where i am now. |
