UBER Car Service

I heard their insurance is a crap shoot. If you are in an accident yu will be on your own.

Has anyone used Uber to get from SS (but outside of downtown SS, about 2 mi north) to DC? Is it a long wait/not worth the cost?

that is not true but they will do anything they can to pin it against you or the driver. They cliam to be a technology company but they are far from it. but beware of the drivers that use private insurance vs for hire insurance. several cases pending where the parties are screwed becuase the drivers private insurance refuses to pay any claims because they were not covered by their insurance to carry payiing cusotmers.

Well since the anti uber person was last to post, I'll have to post some recent uber lovin. I uber-xed for the first time with a coworker last week who swears by it. It wasn't bad and cheaper than a cab. I uber-xed my nanny home yesterday during the snow, cheap, and the guy was nice to her. Finally, I ubered to work this am and it was about 10$ than a cab (from Nova to dupont). Love uber

funny you brought up uberx because there is a very large case pending currently with geico, uberx, the driver of the uberx car and the passenger.

Love uber. I got in late last night at Union Station and happily got my uber home while a long line of people waited for cabs. I have never seen absolutely NO cabs at Union Station before last night.

Nope. An uber taxi bailed on me at the last minute the first time I tried to use it. When I attempted to use the service again, they refused to honor the coupon code that I had since they didn't consider it a "first ride" even though the first time I tried they were no-shows! Hate them.

Has anyone taken kids on uber rides? Do I have to bring a car seat? For a 5 yr old FWIW.

Seriously. Is there one person from the DCTC posting here? It seems like a vendetta. Weird.

I don't think they have car seats but I have never asked. We always just put my 6 year old in the seatbelt. Not ideal, but we have had to do the same with cabs. I wonder if you can request a car with one?

The coupon code doesn't work on the TAXI services, but only on the UberX or Uber. Your driver won't know that you're using a taxi, you'll get the credit after your first ride.

I use uberx pretty exclusively for all of the reasons that others cite above
1. ability to hail a car using my smartphone and see where that car is
2. price - usually lower than a regular taxi during non-peak hours
3. courteous drivers and nice cars
4. proximity to locations that I frequent -- petworth, shaw, etc.
5. convenience - no need to carry cash

It wasn't the uber driver that refused to honor the code but uber itself. Had two bad experiences and am convinced this is all just hype. VA taxis are much more reliable.
