Why would an Uber driver be more of a rape risk than a cabbie?

I heard that news story as well.

I followed that story closely, as I live nearby. After viewing the video surveillance cameras that recorded the incident and interviewing the driver, the police chose not to press charges. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but there doesn't seem to have even been enough probable cause for an arrest, let alone evidence for a conviction.

When you use Uber, there is an electronic record of who your driver is. I would think that you're much safer with an Uber driver than a cab driver, where no such records exist. The safety factor alone makes it worth the premium in cost.

I don't get the attraction. Red top is computer dispatched, they text you when they get close, they take a cc. Sounds like the price is the same after tip.

Über feels much more expensive than "10% more."

My 2 year old can now identify an uber towne car when we walk down the street, we love them so much.

While it is not a huge inconvenience to hand over your credit card, wait for them to swipe it, write info in their driving logs, etc. -- NOT having to do that with Uber really adds to the convenience. With Uber, you just get out of the cab and go.

Do the cars have signs on them identifying them as Uber cars? If not, how do you know it is an Uber car?

Über is all over, it's not just in the DC area. I live in Philadelphia and we use it here. For first time users I have a better code. Type in sugarhouserush in the promo code area and you will get $20 off your first ride.

Are they only good in downtown, or can you use them in Bethesda, or to Dulles? I had the impression they were good for short runs during the day but not so much for early am, but sounds like that's not true?

I use them all the time to Dulles and Reagan from NWDC. They definitely are available in Bethesda. The thing I love is the map. You can track how close cars are to you. I called one for my mom and I could track the route the driver was taking and saw when she arrived. It was great.

Oh, and I have got them as early as 4AM.

I love being able to call one for our babysitter to get her home or to the metro and know she doesn't need to deal with cash.

Just used it for the first time to get from Penn Station in NYC to Brooklyn - it was amazingly efficient and price-effective. Plus I didn't have to deal with first hailing a can and then them refusing to go to Brooklyn.

This would be a great option for AA men who are refused service by cabs when they are out on the street. Excellent!

They have an airport flat rate I think- and they do pick up in Bethesda and silver spring. Got one there at 4am.
