Is UBER really that great. I have a friend who swears by it but also doesn't care much about price and value. For you UBER users, how much more is it than an a normal DC taxi? Is it worth the premium?
Thanks! |

Reason I love it:
1. I never carry cash, and I don't have to worry about it. It's billed to my card 2. No tip 3. I can see how far the car is and when it will get there. 4. I can get a regular taxi or a sedan if I need it (traveling with my daughter and her friends). |
| The best thing about Uber is that when you order the car you know it is coming, how far away it is, etc.. When you call a regular cab there is no such peace of mind. Try it for yourself, my Uber coupon code is NSLCY , it will give you $10 off your first ride. You will never go back! |
| Yes, it really is all that great. It's probably 10-15% more than a regular cab, but since you don't have to tip on top of that it is more than worth it. Every driver we have had has been very courteous, the cars are always nice and luxurious, and the convenience + ease-of-use simply cannot be beat. All you do (after initial account set-up) is order your cab, get in when it arrives, and get out when you are at your destination. |
| Didn't a driver rape somebody in nW? |
|
uber is very price elastic.
using it on high demand nights/times make it a LOT more expensive than a cab. for normal use, it is brilliant though. |
| I foolishly took a cab last Sunday from Union Station. Big mistake. Not only would Uber have picked me up within minutes, but the drivers are all helpful with bags, kids, etc. Plus, there is a certain standard for all Uber cars (whether it be sedan, SUV, car). BTW, the cab was several dollars more than an Uber car would have been. |

OP,
Try a fare quote. https://www.uber.com/cities/washington-dc |

there is also uber x which uses Toyota camry hybrid's
and these are cheaper. |
Why would an Uber driver be more of a rape risk than a cabbie? |
I heard that news story as well. |
| More of a rape risk? I dunno, there is someone on our neighborhood list who is a cab dispatcher and says they do no have to abide by the same regulations. Fwiw. Could that have anything to do with it? |
| Is it only available in DC? Not MD or VA? |
| Everytime I've used über the car comes quickly, the driver is friendly and courteous, and I even get free water. Hailing a cab in DC means surly nasty driver, complains about my fare or taking credit card, or talks on the phone all the time. Bonus, I can just req uber via my phone - don't even need to talk to a surly receptionist or try to hail one downtown. I have used uber from Alexandria, so I know they are in Alexandria:Va as well. Highly recommend it. I suggest all out of town visitors download the app and use it while here |
| Another satisfied uber customer. Will never use another regular cab again. |
