I'll never understand why they killed off the crooked warden. Wouldn't it have been much better to let him live out his days under the awful prison conditions he created?

Disagree with the first poster. This is in my top 5 favorite movies.

And for the 2nd PP, they didn't kill the crooked warden, he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head just as the police were coming to get him. He, in fact, did not want to live out his days in the awful prison conditions he created.

Black Swan - the movie and Natalie Portman's performance
Juno - the script is overrated
American Beauty - I actually enjoy it, but doesn't dserve as much praise as it gets
Another vote for Lost in Translation - I don't mind simple plots, but the characters were too damn annoying to care about
And another vote for Out of Africa - I cannot believe that won best picture over the Color Purple
Anything by Kevin Smith - enough said

tastes vary, I understand that, but this is probably the most loved, respected American film I can think of. A saw a poll a few years back of Hollywood industry people who called it their favorite film. I've watched it maybe 25 times and think it is nearly perfect.

Lawrence of Arabia on 70mm is perfect.

Casablanca is a very good film no question about that.....but it is overrated by a lot in my book precisely because it is considered by a lot as the 'greatest' of American film

It's not the greatest, it's the favorite of those who love movies. The "best" accolade usually goes to Citizen Kane.

Lost in Translation was awful.
I also hate the Austin Powers movies.

Eraserhead is probably the most overrated movie I can think of.

Could not disagree more about The Princess Bride and Doctor Zhivago. Those are both fantastic movies.

Agree about Black Swan and Lost in Translation. Both were enjoyable and I liked them, but they weren't nearly as great as everyone made them out to be.

Lost in Translation is one of my all-time favorites. Gave it to a friend to watch, and she was completely floored that I thought it was any good. She just said that nothing happened in the movie, it was boring. I guess I could relate to the characters, and she couldn't.

Lost in Translation is BORING! It's mostly shots of Scarlett Johansen in her underwear looking out a hotel window. ZZZZZ (Sofia Coppola is a crappy director, but at least nepotism is alive and well in Hollywood.)

We'll have to agree to disagree -- I think the movie was brilliant.

But there are plenty of polarizing movies. I for one, love Napolean Dynamite... I know of plenty who just don't get it, and think its lame (including Roger Ebert).

i ran into a stanger at the red box when this first came out and he insisted it was funny. waited the whole movie and nothing. i might have laughed twice. maybe.

Agreed. Who is more beautiful than Ingrid?

I didn't enjoy Silver Linings Playbook, either.

I enjoy very few movies, but liked both of those. What movies do you like?
