Haha. You got suckered. Wake up. |
No you idiot. I yelled and waved and ran while the stupid teen kept driving towards the crosswalk. That's why she only hit my backpack. |
Don't forget you tried to make eye contact too! ![]() Which part of the car hit the backpack again? |
How and when did you see that her phone was in her hand again? |
As she drove from the other side making a U turn. Maybe she was looking into her maps app. |
Drivers side mirror |
So she was travelling (say Westbound) and went thru the intersection, immediately busted a u-turn right after clearing the intersection. Now she's travelling Eastbound, doesn't see you crossing nor the red light and triggers the redlight camera upon entering the intersection again. All the while you were waiting to cross, you just happened to somehow notice this one car. You happened to see her looking down at her phone from (at least 2 lanes over minimum). What are the odds. |
Nope. We were waiting for the pedestrian light on the south bound. (it's a light in the middle of a long block just for pedestrians. no cars traveling E-W) She was traveling north and we saw her. She was the only car on the street on her side. She made a u turn in the next intersection. The light turned red while she was doing that. We watched her coming and commented on how she was doing all that while texting. We talked as we crossed. All other cars stopped. She was coming slow so I thought she would stop. She didn't so I yelled ran waved got hit and cursed. |
Since DS is cluster feeding and I'm the typical DCUM with too much time in my hands I have a cute drawing of the events just for you..

Awesome! Thanks PP. BTW, OP was this Mulberry Street perhaps? Was their a parade going by at the same time? A monkey on a unicycle? Was it the WeinerMobile that hit you? |
You know, I don't get why people are finding the OP's story so hard to believe. I would think most people who are frequent pedestrians have similar stories. |
I don't understand why people are dissing the pedestrian? The legal fact of the matter is that pedestrians have the right of way, except when crossing against the light.
You know those yellow signs that warn of a pedestrian crossing? They are there to tell you - the driver - to expect pedestrians in the road. You cannot see them with your face buried in your phone - even if you are looking at your map app! Oh, and they also do not mean speed up when you see the pedestrian in the cross walk. Some other bad driving habits/practices that get my goat: - 15 miles and hour in a school zone means just that. You should get a ticket for doing 20! - When the school bus slows to stop and puts out its stop sign and turns on its blinking red lights, you do step on the gas and go for it! - When I stop of the bus, you do not lay on the horn for me to go. - Don't like those red light or speeding camera tickets, obey the law! |
Wow. You spotted her cellphone from 5 lanes over!!!! I hope your DC gets your eagle eyes! |
I hate those crosswalks that pop up without a light. They're crazy dangerous.
There's one half a block down from our elementary school one a secondary road that has become a favorite cut through. I'd say most drivers are unaware of the crosswalk and rarely look for pedestrians. My neighbor was rear ended when she stopped for a pedestrian and the car behind her plowed into her. The crosswalks appear unexpectedly if you don't know the area. Yes, I understand legal liability. I'm saying as a matter of pedestrian safety/traffic planning/whatever, these pedestrian crossings without lights are a bad idea. Pedestrians need to be extra vigilant. Yes, it's your "right" to cross but we'll all feel bad when you're hit. |
I'm thinking the anti-pedestrian poster is the same crazy that started that thread about how it's a child's fault if they get hit by a texting driver while crossing legally in a crosswalk. |
