Currently loving:.
"Tom Ford"-Jay-Z
"Feds Watching"- 2 Chainz
"RIP" -Young Jeezy
"Clappers"- Wale

I like all of those songs except for Tom Ford. It's not a good look, too formulaic and shallow. Jay Z sounds like an old man trying to stay relevant.

I think that an artist like Drake or 2 Chainz could have pulled it off.

Do you not realize that rap is an entire genre of music that goes back back decades and includes a wide variety of artists and styles?
I love rap and hip-hop.
I don't like violence, mysogony, or the big money glorification.
So guess what I do?
I don't listen to that STYLE of rap?
I can like rap and not listen to Tip Drill -- the very thought makes me ill.

Thank God for that!

Btw, I go back decades, and the original rappers were NOT denigrating women. I would have no problem with my kids listening to any of the old school rap. Not sure how some of it evolved into the violence and over the top sex thing.

I am the pp to whom you are responding and I go back decades too -- and old school rap is also my preference.

Basketball is my favorite sport.
I like the way they dribble up and down the court.
Just like I'm the king of the microphone,
So are Dr. J and Moses Malone.
I like slam dunks and taking it to the hoop.
My favorite play is the alley oop.
I like the pick and roll, the give and go.
It's basketball Mr. Kurtis Blow.

Love it! Except don't want it playing while the kids are in the car - don't want my kids singing it/asking what does it mean - maybe when they're older.

[Kool Moe Dee]
We got something new, we got something new
[Special K]
But if you're ready like an eighty, like a movie review
[L.A. Sunshine]
You see we get five stars,to eat your butts
[All]
So let's take in the deal, because it is a must

[Kool Moe Dee]
Well I'm number one, hey! Scarface in the face
My dance on the place, when I said Okay!
[Special K]
And I'm the number one, two! (Whoa!) Amused (Whoa!) What a ruse
I say I got more rhymes than Mother Goose
[L.A. Sunshine]
Well I'm the number one J! Here to stay, yes to save
When I play all the way until the break of day!
[Kool Moe Dee]
And party people number four, back you more on the floor
Gonna party, party, party till you came for more
[All]
And the man number five.Makes the crowd come alive
Reggie Reg on the mix and he takes no jive
And there's the man, number six! Breaking tables on the mix
So come on party people, let me show a few tricks

Rock the Body,body.[8x]

I definitely get what you're saying. Jay-Z is certainly aging himself out of the game, but I guess my nostalgia for rappers who were out during his time (Nas, 2Pac, Biggie) makes me stay loyal to him. Plus, you can't really knock his hustle. The man is one enterprising SOB!

Keeping my eye on Kendrick Lamar. He's another good one.

Also love old school rap, but some of it is a bit "elementary" in style and substance.

Homework assignment: Ask your children what they are listening to and come back w/ a song.

Not the PP by my kids will come back with "The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc". None of them are rap music kids. They prefer classic rock. My oldest doesn't think good music was made after 1990 and that some of the 80s were debatable.

We've apparently raised old souls

No, you've just raised music snobs who, lacking originality, replicate their parents' listening history in an attempt to appear indie and/or "alternative."

They like Journey, Maroon5, and Adele so they can't help.

I would disown my kid for listening to Journey! LOL
