Condo neighbor relations

Anonymous
I'm surprised how rude people would be just because they think she's the nanny. When I see my neighbor's nanny, I'm super friendly. I mean, she is a part of the neighborhood and all, taking care of a kid I care about. What if I got locked out one day or what if I need a nanny in a couple years - wouldn't it be great to have a neighborly, friendly relationship with her?

OP, sorry people are being so rude. I wouldn't try to show them up at the next condo meeting - maybe just do an awesome smelling BBQ with my husband in the community area this weekend.

OP, rude troublemakers have nothing to do with you. They are beaten down and need professional help. Not your problem.

12:14 - THIS. DC is perfect? Yeah right.

I didn't say DC is perfect, but I don't think people walk around cond buildings calling people "shitheads"

OP here. Yes this really happened. I see that crazy old lady all the time too. She's psychotic.

Op here. I really appreciate everyone's input. I was really bothered by the reactions here, but now, not so much.

Yes, people are still overwhelmingly rude, but I don't give a crap anymore. I will still smile and say hello, even if I get eye rolls back or whatever. The poster who said my smiles were insincere is right.

And if that crazy beast calls me a shithead again I'm just going to ask her to please remove the cat hair from the dryers when she is done with them as they are clogged (she is one of the dozens of cat ladies who do this) and ignore her nuttiness. Or maybe I'll ask her why she thinks it's okay to call me that.

I am so surprised that such a rich, educated city has so many issues with racism, but whatever. Thanks again.

OP, take pictures or video of them. That will freak them out, and you will what you need if it escalates. They should not be harassing you. There are plenty of lawyers in this area that specialize in neighbor harassment, as it is an up and coming ("hot") area of specialty. Courts are very familiar with this type of case. They bully you because they think they can. Show them differently. GL.

pp- should read: "will be what you need"...

Also, document everything. The authorities are well aware of who is a nuisance and who is not, so you also have that on your side.

Hahahaha good idea.

So, they're probably everywhere.

I hate people who take out my laundry. She was only 10 minutes late, not as she left it there for hours.

Then get your damn laundry out of the COMMUNITY dryer. Or buy your OWN dryer and keep your clothes in it until the cows come home.

The only way to get people to not take our your laundry? STOP LEAVING IT IN THE MACHINE.

Don't yell at me and don't touch my clothes.

Drop it, you're in the wrong.

This sounds made up.

Are you in the same demographic as OP?

An Argentine lawyer? No.

However I am a minority in my building and never had an issue. But, I live downtown where I guess everyone is a little more friendly.

Pay attention. She's Central American. Argentina is in S America.

There is a clique" of elderly people who hang out in the lobby all afternoon waiting for the mail, gossiping with each other and tattling to management. I have had an occasional bad encounter with some of them. Without going into details, in my building it's not racism or ageism, they really just do not like outsiders period.

Sounds like our HOA. For a while we felt like we lived in a retirement community and while some eldery neighbors were just lovely, we had an elderly queen B and her gossipy followers who had been there long enough that people just went along with their cray cray. The queen was downright nasty to us to the point I was concerned she might just be struggling with mental illness and wasn't taking her medication. Then I thought maybe it was demetia or some other cognitive issue. Then I talked with someone who knew her decades ago and found out she's just an entitled raging bitch. Luckily people are starting to move and new blood is coming in. I just avoid her and will only give a greeting-no conversation. The last time she went psycho on us I asked her to put everything in writing and I would review it with my brother who is a partner in a law firm and get back to her. She hasn't bothered me since.

20:13: GREAT post!

I don't think people realize how there really is one of these in every neighborhood. Sometimes, if you are lucky, you don't have them at all.

My friend has had about six houses that she owns/has owned and has been very lucky not to have had this until recently. In her current house, it is EXACTLY as you described. The crazy neighbor is obsessed, has been caught on camera several times, and will be facing harassment charges and more. Which will not fair well for their job, which they will lose and then have to move. Wouldn't that be a shame? The crazy neighbor will go from thinking they own the neighborhood to 'buh-bye' before they know it. It would not be outrageous to see the whole neighborhood cheering in this case.

Some people think you are as stupid as they are. Turns out they only end up spiting themselves when they are the ones to start trouble. It should be obvious, but they get so wrapped up in what they think is 'being right', they lose sight of reality. Hence the crazy.

OP, I think PP described your neighbors perfectly. The best defense is truly, to continue having your own great life. Miserable people HATE that

There are even more young, entitled assholes in DC, though OP does not sound like one of them.

This is urban living in DC. You get a high Walk Score and a host of daily interactions that make you despise the human race. Loved apartment living in NYC but DC was just full of inconsiderate jerks of all ages and races.

NYC is *NO* comparison, PP. You should know that by now.

To be more precise, Argentina is best seen as a separate planet.
