All $14,000 of them -- yes I do! And I support this breakfast program. Btw, you sound small-minded. Probably diverts 5 cents from your tax bill to fund this program. |
Actually I think there are a few other reasons as to why it's offered to all. I have worked in a school in which there was not a universal breakfast program, but a significant FARMs population. Very few of the students came to the cafeteria and ate breakfast, even though they came to the cafeteria before school to wait to go to their classes. So breakfast was there, but they didn't go get in line and get it. Additionally, the kids who did go get breakfast would often end up coming to class late because they were in the cafeteria still eating. Offering it to all students--when the percentage of eligible kids is high enough--means it can be given in the classroom, so kids can do morning work while eating, and they will actually eat breakfast. |
Mo' kids = Mo' gov't aid! |
The schools have over a 50% farms rate and are full title I. |
Sad but true. There are people like that out there. That's why we have a democracy so the few (batshit crazies, esp.) don't drive the bus. It's up to the rest of us with souls to think about the big picture. On a side note, my own aunt once calculated the additional gasoline it cost her to drive me home once (gas used to be $.50 a gallon) and I think it put her out maybe $.15 cents), so it can show up in anyone's family.

Remember that we don't allow eugenics in this society so there are no disposable people. Assuming you don't invest in children, what do you think society will reap in a decade? Do you want a someone educated in something useful or a rotter who turned his or her talents and energy to crime? As much as it may irritate you that kids get free breakfast, think of it as a down payment of a stable society...blackmail for the lower classes to leave the wealthy alone. |
