I suppose that's brand name, in a "Lowreys Microwave Pork Rinds" kind of way.

Or if you're from Texas.

Proud Ole Miss grad here. Y'all would hate it. Seriously. Please don't send your kids to any southern schools. You are much too good for the south. Just leave us backward-ass rednecks to our miserable lives in the south. I promise, you won't like anything about living down south. We'll somehow manage without you.

Okay. And you keep your confederate flag waving, pick up truck driving, gun toting spawn out of the DC metro area. Deal?

It's wise to avoid generalizations about groups of people. Ever been to North Adams, MA where the Eclipse Mills employed children in the factory? A lot of poverty there, and some still refer to North Adams as a mill town--or refer to those who live near there as rednecks. Yet, there are wonderful people, examples of outstanding architecture, and beautiful scenery all around. Try to find the best in others and not generalize. FWIW, Ole Miss has an English department that's very strong with an incredible Faulkner emphasis.

Trust me. If some snark from North Adams MA shows up on a DC metro message board making sarcastic comments they'll get the same treatment.

That's not saying much for the well-educated, often Ivy educated, DCUM posters . . .

DS is at a southern school and he confirms pretty much everything this guy says. The teacher asked his poli-sci class to split up based on their opinions on gun control. DS was the ONLY student on the pro-gun control side of the room. He knew it students would be more sheltered down there, but not that sheltered. Needless to say, he is transferring.

Mmmm... I'm not sure I would say that the other students in the class are the only ones who are sheltered.

Ole Miss is ranked 151 along with Alabama. To put this in context they would surely understand, would a promising football recruit consider the 151st ranked football program in the country to be brand name?

Because reputation often varies from region to region, it's worth keeping in mind which areas are best for New College Grads, heres the 2012 list from The Atlantic Cities http://www.theatlanticcities.com/jobs-and-economy/2012/05/best-places-new-college-grads-2012/1898/

Oh, Honey. I am southern and I would happily see my kids off to a few southern schools. But not "Ole Miss."

I'm pro-gun control, but I have to say...is the student body here any more sheltered than those at a northeastern liberal arts college? If the class had only one student who was against gun control would you still be calling them sheltered?

UW Milwaukee draws more students from Wisconsin than Madison. UW Madison is all about out of state kids. Many from the Northeast.

Wisconsin is the number 5 state college system behind California, Michigan, Virginia and Nort Carolina. It's not easy to get into, but easier than any of the four ahead of it.
