now I want a preppy girl's thread.

these last names are first names for girls right?

Blaise (pronounced Blaze would NOT be acceptable I am assuming...what about for a middle name. It is great grandmother's last name. She's a hero of mine.

And also to be clear, I cannot use my maiden name...especially since I didn't change it right?

I agree with this. But also by this logic "Beyonce" would be preppy. HA! What a laugh.

I tend to think 80s names as the ultimate in prep, more than just WASP, old money names. Sloane, Kiki as a random nickname, Kelly, Malorie (sp?), and the like.

Where I grew up in New England their was a local female politician named Dudley Dudley. She had the given family name Dudley and then married a guy named Dudley.

I agree Blaise wouldn't work, my mothers maiden name is Fry it also wouldn't work. Not all maiden names can be used as first names. We do know a family with a child named Blue (grandmothers maiden name) and i thInk that's pushing it. You could however use your maiden name if DD is getting your DHs last name. So DD would be Collins Elizabeth Johnson, you are Mary Collins & DH is Bob Johnson.

I think if your daughter will have her father's last name, that giving her your last name as her first would be a nice way for you to be represented in there. But it all depends on the name...if your last name is Horowitz or Sobieski or something like that, then no. As for Blaise, although I think that's a great name, most people will assume from the pronunciation that it's "Blaze" which is just awful. Sounds like a pony who grew up to be a stripper. I like it a lot as a middle name, though.

It's a ski area. We don't name kids after ski areas. No better than naming a kid after a luxury car.

Stratton would only be ok if it was mom's maiden name or a long lost grandmother. Otherwise no go.
