Here's a list started by another:
Girls: Elizabeth Katherine Anna Maya Alexandra I loved that some prep guy was nicknamed thumper. I'd love a girl who's nickname was Thumped. Kidding! |
|
Caroline
Margaret (with odd nickname) Constance Penelope |
| Ha! That is my relative named Thumper. Some girls' given names in that extended family are Elizabeth, Caroline, Laurel and Julia. Nicknames Gabby, (none for Caroline), Lo and Bonnie. Go figure. |
| Charlotte and Caroline for sure. |
|
Sydney
Astrid |
| + Margaret with the nickname Maisie |
|
Hadley
Devon and any such nicknames: Mimi (short for Emily) Kitty (short for Katherine) Ellie (Eleanor or Ellen) |
|
Midge or Midgie for Margaret. Mimi for Amelia.
So funny that that's your list for "preppy". My cousins (all 30+ years old) are Abigail, Anna, Caroline, Katherine, Emily, Elizabeth, Julia... Maya, Sydney and Devon would be consider somewhat vulgar, or at the very least "made up", by my snooty family. Only antebellum names need apply.
|
| Buffy |
|
I have one of the names mentioned more than once in this thread. My parents are working-to-middle class and not the type to do anything aspirational, phony, or pretentious. I should ask my mom why the hell she picked my name. It's a saint's name (as are several others), so maybe that's why.
Agree that Maya, Sydney and Devon don't fit the bill. They sound like soap-opera names to me -- like someone's image of what a wealthy person would be named. |
|
Maya is preppy Arabs or Indian. Not so waspy!
Muffy and Buffy on the other hand... |
| Any card-carrying preppy girl will have a given name from the boys' list and/or the phone book, and a nickname that's some nonsense word with a -y or -ie suffix. |
|
Amanda
Allison Charmaine Eloise Rose Delia Glenda Wendy Vanessa Elaine Nataly Heather |
|
These are not preppy to me at all.

Maren
Hudson Mason (Macy) Katherine (Kiki or Kahki) Marie (Ree) |
