I am an old school prep....I have one of the nicknames on this list. Sydney and Maya aren't quite right. Neither is Wendy or Charmaine or Glenda.
You'd be surprised by some of the old money preppy ladies' names...India, for example. Whitney Sophie Anne Cricket Catharine Louise/Louisa Palmer Caroline Lucy Jacqueline Alix or Alex Victoria |

In my somewhat preppy family, the names Julia, Caroline, Elizabeth, Anna, Sarah, Margaret, Jane, Anne, and Katherine dominate. No problem with cousins sharing names, either.
Some of the odder nicknames include Cricket, Buzzy, Poochie, Lil, Mugs, and Cappy, as well as normal ones like Meg and Sadie. Also, several of the girls go by their middle names, which are family surnames, rather than the names listed above. |
Yes! Another card-carrying prep here and agree 100% with this list. |
| Hillary? |
|
a lot of these listed sound like classic names not preppy...
Cricket, Muffy, Buffy, definitely preppy also Preston, Barclay, and other last name names |
Is India common in New England families? I know it's old-school Southern. |
| Lillian, nickname Lilly |
| Piper |
Add me to the list! Catherine can have the nickname Kiki. |
| Lifelong Muffy here. I nearly passed out when I met someone with the given name Muffy. I was young enough that I am pretty sure I said something assholish like "I didn't think that was legal." yes, officially naming a child a nickname still drives me nuts. |

Kimberly (Kiki)
Margaret (Molly) Bunny, I hear this one a lot. |
| Yes, Cricket! Also, Piper. |

Blair
Brooke Mary Louise Louisa Paige Amy Kathryn Gigi Bridget |
| Bridget? I thought the original preps referred to their maids as Bridgets. |
Not preppy, but WASPy - I know a friend's aunt is named Cheddar. That's right, as in cheese. |
