Hey Everyone!
I'm also due Aug 7 with our first, and we are not finding out what we are having until the Dr holds him/her up and tells me! Anyway, I actually have found some really comfortable clothes at Motherhood and their shipping and returns are easy (since there's a store in Pentagon). Also, got a good deal on work pants from the Gap maternity a few weeks ago. Definitely can't fit into any of my work clothes from last summer!! Went to Old Navy in Bailey's Crossroads but found a disorganized maternity section, and will not go back. I did find some cheaper t-shirts at Target maternity as well that are comfy, but you have to size down. For those that are near Capitol Hill on Sunday April 28 there is a DC Birth and Babies Fair - http://www.dcbirthandbabiesfair.com/ that I think I might check out. Yay August babies in DC! -LR |
My friend had a maternity one that she sent to me, and it is great! She was a lot smaller than me to begin with, so it probably won't fit this summer, but I have used it several times on travel so far and it was wonderful!! I think it was old navy actually. |
Due August 6th with my 3rd DS. Your body will change a lot over the last few months, so I would wait to get measured for nursing bras. I lived in nursing tanks after the baby was born at home, and in the hospital. I highly recommend them; they are wonderful, and I imagine will be even easier in the summer.
I was pregnant mostly in the winter with the first two, so find myself looking for maternity clothes going into summer.... -Agree with Old Navy, especially when there is a 30 or 40% off sale; I got a couple of bathing suits there too which I am very happy with so far... -Target is pretty good too, even for some work clothes and evening clothes... - for those who need nicer clothes for evening or work, I would definitely hit up some of the consignment shops. I was at Wiggle Room a couple of weeks ago and they had a lot of work clothes and then I picked up some summer dresses for like $10/each. Also Ebay... -Shockingly was at Kohl's last week and picked up several pairs of shorts/capris for 55% off or something like that, and I had a 20% off coupon on top of that!!! It was great!!! |
Wow - lots of great information on maternity clothes, nursing bras and bathing suits - thanks!
New question: Is anyone taking a birthing class? I talked to siblings who gave birth a few years ago, and they said not to bother. But, I am still considering it. has any one taken a class and feels it was helpful? Also, I am thinking about an infant/child CPR and first aid class for me and my husband to take. |
VEE here - I took a birthing class and a childcare class before I had DS #1, 2 years ago.
The childcare class was a one-time class and was helpful for asking questions. The birthing class was a multi-week class and was only somewhat helpful. Half of each week's class was informational / instruction which I liked, but the other half was getting on the floor, getting foot massages from your partner, "simulating" labor, etc, which I didn't find very helpful. We also watched a birth video in that class. It had been a looooong time (think high school health class 25 years ago) since I'd seen that, so I think it was good to see. |
I took a class at the hospital before DS #1 and I thought it was ok, but was glad I took it because they reviewed the policies at the specific hospital and gave a tour of L&D and the nursery - it helped to relieve my anxiety. Didn't do another one for DS#2 and won't do one for DS #3 (-; |
OP, L here, and I am taking a hypnosis class called BlissBorn. Don't know what to expect. Some people on this board have given it a glowing review, others have said it wasn't worth their time. I think honestly, the classes will be good for my partner more than me. We did a partner prenatal yoga class, too, which was really good.
I mean, I'm the pregnant one, it's happening to my body every day, and it takes up a lot of space in my mind all the time. I don't think it's quite the same for my partner. Not that he isn't attentive and wonderful, but it's just not taking up as much space in his mind the way it's not taking up as much space in his body. So going to a class can be really focusing, the same way going along to a prenatal appointment can be. |
Hey August mamas! Just wanted to check in and keep this thread alive and kicking! I'm a little disappointed in the weather this coming week - too cold! As my belly gets bigger and bigger, I am realizing I do no have enough warm maternity clothing since I figured the weather during the end of my 2nd tri and my 3rd tri would be warm (and shopped accordingly)! I am ready for easy dressing - flip flops, shorts and tees or dresses!
Hope everyone is doing well - have a great weekend! |
Just hit 6 months! Phew! My bump isn't too big (this is my first), but I am already having trouble sleeping with the bump. Anyone else struggling with this? |
OP here. I had horrible sleep issues because my hips were so sore from sleeping on my side. This with a super awesome latex mattress to boot.
I bought this: http://www.amazon.com/Snoogle-Chic-Jersey-Pregnancy-off/dp/B003D7E2XI It has really really really helped. |
I have this pregnancy pillow which I actually bought on Zulily. The "Coolmax" fabric convinced me because I am so afraid of buring up this summer. We also have a big bed, so space is not an issue, even though I catch my husband using the one side. Anyways, I love it.

VEE here. I've got a plain body pillow that sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Just when I thought I was getting better sleep, I couldn't sleep AT ALL last night. Hopefully just temporary.
On another subject, I just got back from Paddington Station, a consignment shop in Vienna. They have a modest rack of maternity clothes and are having a sale right now. Two shirts and a skirt for $19. Pretty good deal! |
Now, THAT is a pillow! Wow! I have just a regular body pillow, about 1/2 that size. I bet the back support would be helpful. I just wish it was a little cheaper. But, it may be worth the investment if I continue to struggle with sleep. Thanks for the recommendation! |
That is a good deal! May be worth checking out! Hope you get a better night's sleep tonight! |
LR here - we are taking Bradley classes. I just want to be informed as much as possible. I'm not 100% sure it's worth the high cost, but we are only on week 4 out of 12. Think we will also take a saturday hospital class too.
Enjoy the beautiful weather everyone! |
