Hello! I am a new member to the Aug. baby thread - due Aug. 13th with my 1st! I have had many early miscarriages, so, needless to say, my husband and our families are so thrilled. This pregnancy is going really well. Baby boy is kicking away!
OP, I have not experienced Braxton-Hicks. Is it scary? And, best wishes for your wedding this month! So...I have a clothing question. Where are you finding the best maternity clothing? I went to Motherhood at Macy's to get a few warm clothes - I was outgrowing my warmer tops. I felt like a lot of the clothes were thin/cheap material or ill-fitting. Now I need shorts, capris, maybe a dress or two for the warmer weather. I am going to check out Target. Any other recommendations? Congratulations to all of you soon-to-be August moms! |
Yeah! I'm glad people are still out there and want to post ![]() I'm having some Braxton Hicks as well, but not as much as with my first baby. For me it feels like someone's blowing up a balloon in my uterus. |
Butting in from the October thread (I'm Poppy), but just wanted to throw out a few maternity clothing suggestions I learned from my first pregnancy:
-I love Old Navy for casual clothes. Way better than Target, and online ordering/returning is easy. They often have 30% off sales, so I'd wait for those and stock up. -Can't stand Motherhood. Everything from the hard sell to the cheap clothes turned me off. Ugh. -Gap also has good stuff, though I tended to shop there (and Loft) for work clothes more. -I adore Belly Dance Maternity (google it) for fancier things and super cute clothes. Most of the items are way outside of my price range, but they have pretty good deals in the sale/outlet section. I supplemented my ON staples with a few pieces from there, and loved them. Hope this helps! I love these due date month threads. :^) |
I didn't even think of Old Navy - thanks for mentioning that!
I went to Motherhood at Macy's in Tyson's. The salesperson didn't try to hard sell me on anything, but talked to me constantly while I was browsing. She was very nice, but I found it hard to focus on clothes! I felt a little trapped in that room with her. Has anyone purchased nursing bras yet? I needed to get two larger bras after a 1st trimester "growth spurt." I need more bras, and figure I may as well just buy nursing bras at this point. I understand the straps adjust to accommodate changes in breast size. I just wonder if I buy one now, will I out grow it by the time I am ready to nurse. Thanks for your feedback! |
Taking the cue from the October thread I'm going to "screen name" myself as VEE. I'm the "blowing up a balloon in my uterus" poster.
With my first, I didn't get any nursing bras until my 3 week consultation with a lactation consult. I bought them at the hospital for about $40 each, and they lasted me about 13 months. Around 10 or 11 months, they definitely started showing wear, and I'll have to replace them this time, but they did the trick. The nice thing about buying them from the lactation consultant was that she was able to measure me and give me a couple different options. I had never been measured for a bra before. I also had one that I got from target, but it was pretty flimsy. |
I am waiting for one of the 40% off everything Loft sales that seems to happen on a bi-weekly basis. Never buy anything there when it's full price.
I also hit up the sale page on A Pea in the Pod. Sometimes I've gotten some inexpensive and super nice stuff there. I also troll eBay and have gotten a few things on there. But the cool thing is that so far, even at 5 1/2 months, I'm able to wear clothes that are not "maternity" with some modifications. I have this cute dress from Benneton that ties at the waist. I just moved the tie a little higher and it works great! Did I mention though that I feel huge? I haven't gained more than the normal amount of weight (just about 10-12 lbs at this point) but I feel enormous. |
Yey for August babies! I have been buying maternity stuff at Zulily, but the wait for shipping is soooo long. I need to get a bathing suit soon. Any suggestions for that? I 'm at 20 weeks and have not felt any kicking yet ![]() |
OP here. Braxton Hicks are not scary. They're just weird. Everything feels really tight across my belly, and my uterus feels extra-hard. It only happens when I'm standing and doing lots of stuff and need to sit down or drink more water.
To the PP who's asking about headaches, I was getting them all the time. I just was under-hydrated. You need 30% more water than normal right now. Also key for me was making sure I ate and kept my blood sugar steady. If I ever let myself get super duper hungry, it's bad news. |
new poster to this thread! just wanted to say a quick hello. Just hit 21 weeks with baby #2 due August 22nd. Not looking forward to a long, hot DC summer and being large and in charge! Congrats to everyone on the thread! |
Heads up to the folks asking about maternity fashion. DO NOT order from Pink Blush Maternity. The quality of their dresses appears to be crap. I ordered two dresses that I am returning because the material is so thin they are little better than beach cover ups. Not what I was going for. |
PP here asking about the Braxton Hicks. Thank you for explaining how they feel. Now, I am wondering if I have had them, and didn't realize what they were.
As for headaches, I get them of and on, but they usually don't last all day. I am working hard on staying hydrated - especially this week (I had a nasty stomach virus with a lot of vomiting). Does anyone have placenta previa? I do, and am really hoping it will resolve. The report I received said it was "complete placenta previa," but my doctor received a more detailed report and said the placenta is not centered over the cervix and it should resolve itself. Fingers crossed... |
Hi everyone!
Has anyone bought a bathing suit? I am not sure if I will need one, or want to be in one this summer. But, I am curious where to look if I decide I do need one. |
I ordered a nice suit from Old Navy online that I'm super happy with (the blue tankini). However, go a size down. Their maternity sizing is pretty huge. |
Hi I am K...
New poster due August 1 with a girl. I am a FTM. Almost 25 weeks and am showing a lot! Gained a few pounds, but feel so heavy. I just started prenatal yoga and signe up for birthing classess. I got most of my maternity clothes from friends, old Navy and Pea in the pod. I'm getting used to the movement of my little one. It's nice to know other mothers are due around the same time as me. |
VEE here: Wanted to share that Babies R Us in Bailey's Xroads now has a maternity section in store. I was only in there briefly the other day, but the clothes seem decent and reasonably priced. Better selection than target. There is also a large selection of nursing bras. |
