In a book called The Midwife, by Jennifer Worth, there are several stories about this. I know the book is now a popular BBC miniseries--I wonder if these stories will be included?

One is funny, one is tragic, and one is incredibly inspirational They are from 1950s London, and they really capture our fallen nature...and the hope for redemption.

mandatory? even if it were reasonable (and legal) to force new mothers to submit their newborns to unnecessary tests like this, shouldn't at least the father/husband/supposed-father have a right to decide he doesn't need such a test?

The military acts on this suspicion by mandating rhogam shots to every mother. I had to fight so hard to not be subjected to it. I told the OB that we were high school sweethearts and that there was no way I could fool anyone, since we are two different races and it would be obvious I was right, but they refused to back off. I was so naive at the time, it took me a while to realize that they did not trust that the father was who I said it was, period.

What on earth are you talking about.

We are a long time military family with young kids and have never heard of anything like that.

Maybe I drew a bad OB, but even though my husband and I were clearly and demonstratively O negative, I was pressured at every appointment to get a rhogam shot "just in case.". Maybe it's because I was young and enlisted, I don't know, but eventually, the OB flat-out said that they can't trust a mother's word when there are lives on the line, so the policy was a shot for everyone.

Maybe that wasn't true. Wouldn't be the first time military medicine completely stunk.

Her DH and his parents (paternal grandparents) love and adore her DD. My friends feels that it is best to leave things the way they are.

Your friend is a despicable person. That is about the worst thing you can do to a man. And you are no prize yourself for assisting in the cover up.

People think this stuff only happens on Maury, but look at the cluster-mess of John Edwards and co.

DH's grandmother worked for a doctor back the the forties. Three of her five children were his instead of her husband's. She told my MIL when she was on her deathbed.

NP--are you crazy, PP in bold? You would stick your big nose in someone else's private business just because it offends YOU? What if the "dad" goes postal upon hearing the news and kills everyone? You are despicable for thinking it's your place to open your damn mouth.

For real? I can't seem to get knocked up with #2, but finding a similar man to have an affair with has never crossed my mind. Never. Who the eff does that?
