In a book called The Midwife, by Jennifer Worth, there are several stories about this. I know the book is now a popular BBC miniseries--I wonder if these stories will be included?
One is funny, one is tragic, and one is incredibly inspirational They are from 1950s London, and they really capture our fallen nature...and the hope for redemption. |
Maybe I drew a bad OB, but even though my husband and I were clearly and demonstratively O negative, I was pressured at every appointment to get a rhogam shot "just in case.". Maybe it's because I was young and enlisted, I don't know, but eventually, the OB flat-out said that they can't trust a mother's word when there are lives on the line, so the policy was a shot for everyone. Maybe that wasn't true. Wouldn't be the first time military medicine completely stunk. |
