So...did anyone soften their opinion on Palin after her speech?

And her family is adorable (DH is HOT! )...
Still, I can't get past the fact that she's a creationist and is pro-life, so she hasn't won my vote.

You should really reconsider being a single issue voter.

Not the referenced PP, but look, as a woman who had an abortion in my teens whose life would have been drastically different if I hadn't had the option, and not for the better, there are some things that I absolutely will not compromise on when it comes to who I vote for. I really wish I didn't have to be a single issue voter.

Thank you. I feel the same way. My life would have far different had I not had my termination in college-and also will not compromise who I vote for. If you don't believe in abortion-then don't have one BUT there needs to be a choice.

Not a whole lot, actually.

Just finished watching her speech. Did I find it that impressive or soften my opinion on Palin? No - but pictures of the family (esp. Trig and Piper) sure did!

Still voting for Obama.

Gov. Palin doesn't scare me, and I don't care about her personal life, but her politics scare me (from what I can tell from her slim record). I also found her speech mean and snide.

I can't support her candidacy because I don't believe that my personal moral values have to dictate what others do, and that health programs should be evidence-based (not based on the teachings of one religion over another). Also, I don't think the sum total of the government's responsibilities to me ends as soon as they open up natural areas to more oil drilling.

And, I grew up in a rural Ohio town smaller than her town in Alaska, and I like hockey, and I'd like to see a woman elected. Still, I expect more from my elected leadership than what Gov. Palin has to offer. Olympia Snowe and Kay Bailey-Hutchinson must be grinding their teeth.

Also, it's worth notinng that no matter how terrific or not she may be as a parent or Governor, she voted to reduce funding for a program aimed at helping teen moms get on their feet.

Sorry, cannot let this one pass. So in 2007 1.3 million was earmarked for this private charity, in 2008 someone proposed 5 Million, she cut it to 3.9 million. Many people would call this tripling the organizations funding, not slashing or reducing it. I guess it is a matter of perspective, huh?

i thought her kids were super cute. doesn't mean i'll vote for her though. hell would freeze over first.

i honestly don't give a rat's ass about the teleprompter or speech writers or any of that, either. let's get back to the issues here.

I think that Palin enjoys making gratuitous, nasty remarks. As she proclaimed, she's a pit bull with lipstick (isn't that lovely?) I think her personality speaks to what is dark in all of us. Seeing mockery, sarcasm, and condescension sanctioned on stage to raors of applause I think in some way makes people feel more comfortable with the parts of themselves with which they are not comfortable.

She would be a terrible vice president. On the other hand, she would fit right in on DCUM.

This is the most astute analysis I've read all week . . . .

Perhaps the person who posted RedState's misinformation in a bunch of threads here will post a correction now?

Thanks for this! It didn't seem possible that she could have continued to sound so scripted..

I thought she was scary, behind her charm there's so much sarcasm and she delivers low blows. I'm sorry, the woman has no class. No class whatsoever. Seems that she thrives on this kind of dark energy. Not to talk about her scary policies. Dude, I can't see why anyone would vote for her. I actually now like Mccain much more; he seems like an angel compared to Sarah. This makes me even more convinced that Obama is it!

Well, when private charity is supposed to stand in for public policy, it's a big problem.

I posted the quote in this chain, but not in any others. Also, this seems to be a pretty unsettled issue. I first heard about the teleprompter failure on CSPAN this morning on my way in, which is why I googled it once I got to work. After seeing your post above, I googled again, and people just can't seem to agree on whether it malfunctioned or not. For example: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/259416 (saying RedState first published it, Jonathan Martin said the teleprompter worked fine, a Wall Street Journal writer saw it flipping back and forth during applause, MSNBC said it didn't work right), so who knows? Personally, I watching last night assuming she was going to be a total flop and her speech would be the daggar through McCain's campaign. I'm not even a Palin supporter, or a Republican, but I still thought it was a good speech (no matter who wrote it, and regardless of whether she used a teleprompter, hard copy, or spoke off the cuff). There were a few unnecessary barbs; but I think she has received more than her fair share of those over the past week herself.

Wow, I could say pretty much the same thing about Hillary, except for the part about liking McCain.

I was brought to tears. As an HRC supporter, I really have been missing having a woman on the national stage. I guess I was spoiled by a woman finally having relevance and power during a presidential election. I also think it is wonderful that the socially conservative republican party is willing to embrace this working mom, and that the proven sexist pundit class may have some egg on their face for bashing her so fully.

This is so unbelievably self-indulgent. You know what really brings me to tears? Women who can't get past themselves and their navel-gazing enough to realize that there are people out there REALLY suffering--every day--and not because they miss seeing a woman on the national stage. Yeah, it would be nice. I'm a feminist, too. But THIS woman at THIS time in history? Is she RIGHT for the country? Is she ready to meet all the challenges that could come her way?

I fail to see how it advances our sex when the first women the Republicans pick for a national ticket is grossly less qualified than many women in their party? Why not THOSE women? I'm no fan of Christie Whitman, or Kay Bailey Hutchison, or Olympia Snowe, but good Chr*st, at least I could believe they were picked because they were qualified.
