So...did anyone soften their opinion on Palin after her speech?

I think she's a good public speaker and very charismatic. And her family is very photogenic.

I don't agree with her political views, but I think she's an impressive woman. I wouldn't be able to juggle 5 children and a very demanding career, but then no one nominated with for VP. If she can do it, then more power to her.

Fine. Then I guess I'm a better speaker than both Obama and Palin. I have given several high-level speeches without looking at my notes. And it was even harder for me than it would be for Obama or Palin in that I was subject to the constant interruption of difficult questions. Questions that weren't passed to me beforehand, so that I could practice an answer.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that if Sarah got along without the use of a teleprompter for part of her speech last night -- it ain't all that. Not to me.

Nobody can do both of these at the same time and do either one of them well.

Halfwaythrough Sarah Palin's speech tonight at the RNC, people followingthe speech noticed she was deviating from the prepared text.

According to sources close to the McCain campaign, theteleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As aresult, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolledsignificantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. Themalfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani's speech, explaininghis significant deviations from his speech.

Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver herspeech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point inher speech."

Wow. I sure find that impressive.

NOT. Everytime I've given a speech I pretty much have it in my head be memory and do not need to look at my notes.

I've noticed that every single time Barack Obama speaks, he takes out of his jacket one single index card. That's the only "teleprompter" Barack Obama has ever needed.

You give 40 minutes speeches that are watched by millions of people?

I have appeared in federal appeals courts to argue cases. I bring notes, but I never look at them. I am too much in the moment to start reading from a piece of paper. Plus, I have literally practiced my argument at least 20 times before I make my appearance. I doubt 80 million people were watching.

It's easy to give a speech. Harder to intelligently answer questions when a panel keeps interrupting you with questions you have not seen beforehand.

I'm not too taken with myself. Like I said, all it takes is practice and adrenaline. Therefore, I'm not too taken with Palin, either. It's just not all that.

Poor poor Dems....The only thing you can pick on is that she used a teleprompter and that she didnt hold her baby long enough.

I can't cook for shit, but I would never accept the chance to be VP, President, a trillion dollars, or a promise from god of immortal health if the offer were conditioned on my not telling my daughter about it until the very day I accepted the offer on a national stage and making her extremely vulnerable to ridicule that she will never really get over.

Agreed!

I think that Palin enjoys making gratuitous, nasty remarks. As she proclaimed, she's a pit bull with lipstick (isn't that lovely?) I think her personality speaks to what is dark in all of us. Seeing mockery, sarcasm, and condescension sanctioned on stage to raors of applause I think in some way makes people feel more comfortable with the parts of themselves with which they are not comfortable.

She would be a terrible vice president. On the other hand, she would fit right in on DCUM.

HAHAHA! so harsh.. so true....

I don't really understand why people are gushing over her speech when she didn't even write it. Yes, she's a strong, confident public speaker, but who cares?

I was furious when she belittled Obama's experience as a community organizer (while the audience chuckled with amusement). Being in the social work field I have witnessed the HUGE importance of community organizers to the very people Sarah Palin claims to represent and care so much about.

If anything, it's much harder to be a successful community organizer than a mayor. You have to convince people to work together towards a common vision when they aren't being paid to do it.

Just like it's harder to be president than it is to be an officer in the military because officers can give binding orders whereas even presidents, while they may have paid staff to carry out their bidding, have to depend on the political good will of others who are willing to go along with their vision.

So doesn't matter whether it's McCain or Palin. Neither one has yet demonstrated half the ability that a good community organizer has.

"C'mon, people -- let's not even linger to much on the Treg issue. Would you want her for your mom? "

Yes, because if Palin wasn't his Mom, he probably wouldn't be here at all. Most downs babies are aborted.

This could have been written about Obama.

I thought it was a very divisive and mean spirited speech.

I am an undecided voter. She did not win me over with her speech. I did not feel it was good enough to win over new voters, but it would probably keep her Republican base happy. I was more impressed with Obama's speech, which I felt was more positive overall, and more inclusive of Dems, Reps, and Independents. Right now, i am leaning towards Obama.

THE TELEPROMPTER DID NOT BREAK

Perhaps the person who posted RedState's misinformation in a bunch of threads here will post a correction now?
