So...did anyone soften their opinion on Palin after her speech?

Still, I can't get past the fact that she's a creationist and is pro-life, so she hasn't won my vote.

You should really reconsider being a single issue voter.

["BREAKING: Sarah Palin "Winged" Her Speech Because of "Broken" Teleprompter
Halfwaythrough Sarah Palin's speech tonight at the RNC, people followingthe speech noticed she was deviating from the prepared text.

According to sources close to the McCain campaign, theteleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As aresult, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolledsignificantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. Themalfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani's speech, explaininghis significant deviations from his speech.

Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver herspeech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point inher speech."

Wow. I sure find that impressive.

NOT. Everytime I've given a speech I pretty much have it in my head be memory and do not need to look at my notes.

I've noticed that every single time Barack Obama speaks, he takes out of his jacket one single index card. That's the only "teleprompter" Barack Obama has ever needed.

Not the referenced PP, but look, as a woman who had an abortion in my teens whose life would have been drastically different if I hadn't had the option, and not for the better, there are some things that I absolutely will not compromise on when it comes to who I vote for. I really wish I didn't have to be a single issue voter.

You don't really believe that, do you? Spend two seconds googling Obama and teleprompter (as I just did) and you will see how wrong you are. There are too many links (some with video) to choose from about the marked differences in his speeches with vs. without teleprompters. I don't criticize anyone who uses them-- those are LONG speeches to do from memory. I just think it's extra-impressive when people can be coherent for that long without one.

Not the pp, but aren't evangelists also one issue voters? I don't know what's so great about entering this world as an unwanted child. The nation's and world's streets are full of unwanted street children who have no families or families incapable of taking care of and loving them.

Do you want to go back to the Pre-Roe v. Wade days when women just went to back alley butchers to get their abortions and then lay bleeding to death? Outlawing abortion will not eliminate it - it just creates more dangerous conditions for women. Drugs are illegal. Does that eliminate its use? It's created a lot of violence but it does not stop it.

I'm pro-choice because it needs to be available under safe conditions.

Consider, too, that some folks are single issue voters because they oppose abortion, or really really feel strongly about drilling or not drilling in ANWAR. There are usually one or two things that tip undecided folks over the fence.

Yes, of course she should. She has an adorable family! She's refreshing and bold! Neat!

Forget the fact that she believes in intelligent design; is against abortion 100% of the time; has negligible experience, and was downright MEAN to Barack Obama, who has never said a negative thing about her.

"Being a mayor of a small town is sort of like being a community organizer -- only with real responsibilities."

"The presidency is not a journey of self-discovery." (heaving sarcasm and roll of eyes).

"Barack Obama has authored two books, but never written a single law." (This may be true; it is very hard to write a bill that eventually passes as law. I would bet he's written plenty of proposed legislation).

"After the lights go off in the stadium and the styrofoam columns have been taken back to some studio lot . . . "

I think that Palin enjoys making gratuitous, nasty remarks. As she proclaimed, she's a pit bull with lipstick (isn't that lovely?) I think her personality speaks to what is dark in all of us. Seeing mockery, sarcasm, and condescension sanctioned on stage to raors of applause I think in some way makes people feel more comfortable with the parts of themselves with which they are not comfortable.

But that's not a reason to vote for her and her odious policies.

And on another matter, since everyone thinks her family was so cute: Downs babies are extremely vulnerable to illness and infections. Much more so than your average 4-month-old baby. Seeing that baby passed, like some beast of burden, from Bristol, to Cindy, to Daddy, and then to some younger member of the family who repeatedly licked her hands and rubbed his head, then finally to mom who paraded him around did not impress me in the least.

That baby should not have been exposed to so many germs at such a young age and for a political purpose.

C'mon, people -- let's not even linger to much on the Treg issue. Would you want her for your mom?

I have suffer from many faults as a mother. I need my "me time". I allow my children to watch television that contains adult (Larry David) and obscene (the Republican National Convention) material. I yell too much. I am not terribly well-organized and can't keep a linen closet for shit. I turned my back for two moments this morning and, when I turned back, found my daughter squeezing the contents of an Omega-3 softgel into her mouth and I had to spend the next twenty minutes contacting and speaking to Poison Control (she's fine). I could continue to list my shortcomings, but honestly, there isn't enough room in cyberspace. I am no sanctimommy.

But I am no monster. If my daughter gets pregnant when she's 17, I will do everything I possibly can to support her. If she wants an abortion without anyone knowing about it, I'll help her get that done. If we walk into the doctor's office and she has second thoughts, I'll encourage her to leave and take her to lunch. I will go through that revolving door of the doctor's office as many times as she needs -- whether it be none or 100. If she wants to marry the father, I'll give her the nicest wedding I can afford. If she'd prefer not to have anything to do with the father, I'll do everything I am legally allowed to do to "persuade" him to get out of Dodge. If she wants to maintain a relationship with him and the child, I will treat him like a son. If she wants to give her child up for adoption, I'll support her in that. If she wants to change her mind at any point in the adoption process, I'll do everything I am permitted to do by law to protect her interests. If she wants to keep the baby and still go to college, I will try to help with the baby as much as I can. If she wants me to butt out, I'll be gone.

I can't cook for shit, but I would never accept the chance to be VP, President, a trillion dollars, or a promise from god of immortal health if the offer were conditioned on my not telling my daughter about it until the very day I accepted the offer on a national stage and making her extremely vulnerable to ridicule that she will never really get over.

This is one hard-hearted woman. It therefore should not be surprising that her speech had no heart. Not one mention of health care, education, poverty -- nothing. Contrast that with Obama, who wants to keep your kids toys safe.

The choice could not be clearer.

She would be a terrible vice president. On the other hand, she would fit right in on DCUM.

Then let me rephrase: you're wrong. He uses a teleprompter every chance he gets.

Well, creationism (and her stance that it should be taught in scohols) and abortion rights are actually two issues. So there.

Sarah "Pitbull" Palin ... hmmm ... she didn't have to canvas and learn about the people in her community because she already knew them. What if she doesn't? Does she know all 300+ million of us in the rest of the country so she doesn't need community organizing experience which she denigrated? I would have developed higher appreciation for her if she didn't go off on such negative sniping tangents on Obama and make dismissive remarks about his community organizing experience, as if it were some fluff job.

The DNC kept it pretty positive and I expected the RNC to follow so as not to appear so negative. The "Pitbull" spent the first 10 minutes talking about McCain, The next 10 minutes introducing her family and reaching out to "special needs" parents, and then 3 minutes on her "accomplishments" and the "Just say no to the bridge to nowhere" and that Obama wants to raise taxes on small business (lies. The conservative rag, the Wall Street Journal, contradicts this). BTW, Alaska didn't build the bridge bc of the widespread criticism not bc Sarah Pitbull is such a strong person, but still took the $223 million to spend on other projects. Maybe we need to dig deeeper to find out how it was spent.

BTW, she slashed spending for programs focused on preventing teen pregnancies and on helping teenage moms and troubled youth to have a place to live and build some skills to become productive independent adults. Ironic, huh?

I'm glad you're mature about it. Why would you bother clinging to an argument that is so easily proven wrong? Especially one that doesn't matter (what's wrong with using a telepromtper?). If a teleprompter helps you communicate your message better, USE ONE.

Andy Martin Says Barack Obama Is the “Teleprompter” Candidate

"The results weren't just interesting because they revealed Obama as a markedly inferior speaker without the Teleprompter. Obama's supporters have had ample notice that the scripted Obama is far more effective than the spontaneous one. The extremely articulate and passionate Obama that makes all the speeches has yet to show up at any of the debates. For such a gifted and energetic speaker, he is an oddly tongue-tied and indifferent debater."

"Several Democrat political consultants say that Barack Obama spent part of his vacation in Hawaii working on weaning himself off his heavy dependence on teleprompters. Apparently, even at events that are considered "town hall" events, Obama's remarks are scripted or in bullet points that scroll on the teleprompter"
