Churchill to get $80,000 scoreboard?

Not been repaired (sanded, painted and re-coated) for more than 10 years. Multiple injuries that have not been widely publicized. Worst floor in the county. It costs $15-20k to fix it but the Churchill booster Club and administration would rather prioritize the scoreboard. I've got no problem with the scoreboard in principle but where are the priorities?

+1. I am an AAU basketball coach and I can honestly say that Churchill has the worst floor of any MCPS high school where my teams have played. Also, my own daughter suffered a non-contact patella injury when she slipped on that floor going after a loose ball.

The boosters can spend the money on whatever they want but that floor is a huge lawsuit waiting to happen.

If you are willing, please contact bulldawgs110@aol.com - we are collecting information about the gym floor/injuries and would like to know the details. We have several folks who have had similar experiences.

Since when was MCPS about our children? The Gazette reports that giving teachers TWO raises will leave little money for OUR children' s needs. We have a superintendent who walks around claiming he is a social justice warrior while sending his kids to the best schools, running around with bodyguards, and pandering to the unions.

Since when did MCPS care about anything more than filling their pockets with our tax dollars?

I see Janus or one of her Parents Coalition sheep is trolling this topic. Come out come out where ever you are Janus!

haha you have no idea but you will soon. Enjoy the ride because it's about to get very uncomfortable for a lot of folks at Churchill/MCPS. This is one is going to come out of left field and surprise you. It really has nothing to do with the scoreboard except to illustrate that WCHS athletic priorities are completely screwed up. I am a one issue person right now and have no affiliation with the parents coalition.

Oy! I guess when you can't dispute the facts you begin the personal attacks. Show me the statistics to prove that MCPS is anything but a mediocre school system despite all the money that goes into it.

News flash, but there are MANY parents dissillusioned with MCPS admin. I have no clue why you keep calling everyone Janice.

I know Janice. She's the only one really holding their feet to the fire. We should vote for her for school board. Wouldn't that completely freak them out!

I'm 6/28 8:35 and I am not Janus, Janice, or whatever. I,m just a parent disillusioned with the bungling and mediocrity that I get for my tax dollars. I'm tired of Starr's self promotion and buffoonery. It is time to reform MCPS.

I think one of the big problems is the size of MoCo. It's just so big, and the varying needs of schools and students in different parts of the county result in policies that make everyone feel short-changed. There is a complete absence of local control and parents in both the affluent and less affluent parts of the county feel powerless to implement changes that are appropriate for the challenges faced in their particular schools. But how do you make the county smaller? I just don't see a solution. So I'm sitting here in downcounty pissed off about a spectacularly expensive purchase being made at one of the affluent schools, a scoreboard for $80,000, but the parents at those schools perceive children in the downcounty as already getting a disproportionate amount of funding per student while their classrooms are bursting at the seams, so they're unapologetic about doing what they can with the resources that are at their disposal (fair or not, parents of Churchill students are more likely to donate to boosters than parents in the downcounty schools, some of which have FARMS well above 50%). And neither side is wrong to feel aggrieved. Because they're not getting what they need.

Do what you want. That's fine. But don't pretend this is all about lazy parents who won't run a concession stand as opposed to an example of the haves and have nots in the county.

And should I rent a Hyundai to drive when I might run into you or is it okay with you if I just drive the car I bought with the money I made from the job I got with the degree I earned at college where I paid my own way?

That's a clown question Bro!

I'm 42 years old and went to MCPS in the 70's and 80's. Churchill was like this back then. Kids in Porsche and BMW, 80k score board, Sugar Ray's son...what else is new.....get used to it.

1. She'd never GET enough votes. There is a vocal minority - MINORITY - that supports her.
2. If some heavenly hand dropped from the sky, cradled Janus in its palm, and placed her at the BOE, she'd STILL be the vocal minority. MINORITY!

get it?

She's like that itch you just can't find to scratch. That's all - more of an annoyance than a condition worthy of a trip to the ER.
