The Booster Club at Quince Orchard is by far the most successful in the county. Their concession stand(s) are almost like restaurants. The do carnivals, mulch sales, and a hundred other fundraisers.
How do you think that they got the money to build the Cougar Dome? I don't see anyone bitching about that. |
I've been a Churchill parent for 2 years. I thought the money was being raised to put in a marquis type board for the school. One that would be programmable to publicize important events. I don't know anything about this scoreboard. Someone in the know please fill me in. |
I would not call it a Jumbotron but its a HD type capable of showing replays. |
Why would this be an issue for anyone? If the money comes from a booster, and the parents were able to raise the funds from concessions, they have the right to purchase a scoreboard.
Anyone, at any school is entitled to run a concession stand/carnival/mulch sale and use the money to do the same. Stop whining, and do the same at your school if you're upset about this. |
Exactly. But OP (and others) don't want you to have the scoreboard either because: "It is just difficult to see this visible reminder of the wealth disparity that has come to define MoCo schools." So I don't know, I guess school with hard working concession stand parents needs to funnel their money to the schools with no boosters? I'm not sure what OP wants. |
Well, as a Churchill parent that paid booster fees and supported fundraising both by working and donating, I'm pissed that that much money is going toward this ridiculously over the top score board. There are plenty of other things that that money could be spent on. In addition, it will only benefit football, soccer and la crosse. There are a lot of other sports at the school that have to beg borrow and steal to get what they need. I'm very steamed and I'm not paying these $@#$% fee's or contributing to the fundraisers next year. That's for damn sure! |
So is this scoreboard different from that new thing that is now at the corner of Tuckerman & Gaithersburg? Where did that come from? Signed, curious future Churchill parent |
You are an elitist f-ing bitch. You can't understand that many parents who send their kids to red zone schools are quite possibly working two jobs just to make ends meet? just an elitist bitch |
Does that mean that these "red zone" parents can't man a concession stand? Can they not organize a car wash? You know damned well they can yet you fall back on the tired old canard about working two jobs. If they got off their asses they could raise money for their school too. But no.......they expect handouts from the government. |
$80K is a LOT of car washing and food sales. Raising that level of funding requires parents who can write big checks.
|
What are you talking about? A certain high school makes (net) $7,000 for a football game, $1-2K for lacrosse. |
How about stop the name calling and just don't complain about our scoreboard then (or whatever it is the boosters bought with the money they raised)? |
Where are the other Churchill parents that are outraged by this? |
They are overseas on vacation. |
