Spinoff: Teachers, what would you like to tell parents, but can't.

Our DD's elementary school teachers said we were wasting our time to have DD evaluated. It was our DD's soccer coach and music teacher that suggested the evaluation, and we're so glad that they did!

Where were you that you didn't have an inkling that she needed help?

Are you black?

I am not the quoted pp, but why do you ask if she is black?

Using DCUM logic only an AA may say something such as "Black American breakfast." If PP isn't AA then, DCUM logic, she is a racist.

Actually, no. I'm just wondering why the doctor said it to her. If she's non-black and the doctor is telling her soda and chips is the black American diet, I'm wondering why she's being told this information that is irrelevant (to her) at her physical. If she's black, I'm still wondering why the doctor felt is was relevant to her- does she eat chips and soda for breakfast?

(Also, the person who said "black American breakfast" is the doctor, who is black, not the PP. Try to keep up.)

You are the one who asked if PP was black! My MD is from India and I am pure Anglo-Saxon but she has spoken about her practice in India. What the hell difference does it make?

We needed to have it documented in multiple locations BY OTHERS and not just by us at home. We as parents stating that we see things on the soccer field does not qualify as multiple locations.

Most parents just need to spend quality time with their children. Not just ploping them in front of the TV, but try to read to them every night. If they are older, try to spend time talking and LISTENING to them. I am a parent, not a teacher, and I have a wonderful relationship with my DSs teacher. Just be involved as much as you can, and your child will succeed!

No, it's not. I teach mostly Latino children and some of their parents speak not ONE WORD of English. It's to their and their child's detriment. I speak Spanish, but as my Kindergarteners move on and up through school, not all of their teachers will be bilingual. The parents must negotiate the school system and because of their lack of English, some of their children's needs won't be met and they will fall through the cracks. Some school systems have Spanish language facilitators, but these positions are being cut back. So it's hardly an ignorant comment. Get a clue.

I think you meant "What a bunch of know it alls that WHO absolutely nothing." Please, if you are going to bemoan the ignorance of others, do so with proper conjunctives.

You are annoying.
Your kid isn't as bright as you think.
No, he isn't bored, he is misbehaving.
We (teachers) make fun of you (parents) a lot.

You are annoying.
Your grammar is poor, your intellect is substandard.
I can't believe I'm paying this much for the school, and you're teaching him.
<smile, smile, mustn't let the dimwit notice the disdain...not that she would....for DS's sake...>

You're a dumbass. There's nothing wrong with the pp's grammar. The newest insult on DCUM is to put down someone's grammar when there's nothing wrong with it.

Congratulations, you've clearly missed the point. The PP never said or implied there was anything wrong with the posted grammar (not that you would be able to tell). It's simply a turnaround of the same type of offenses.

Your comment was complete gibberish. Please, if you are going to bemoan the ignorance of others, do so by proofreading first.

Don't you mean "conjunction" ? And BTW, "who" is not a conjunction.

What a mess.

But I can't resist:

I am not the only one responsible for your child's learning. You are also responsible. I am temporary; you are forever. Please don't think I can work magic in 10 months. I will try my best and be patient and well-planned and compassionate and nurturing. But I am human, just like you. You make mistakes, and so do I (including grammatical ones). Having a classroom of six-year-olds is sometimes CHALLENGING and I cry frequently in the car on my way home. I give your child more time than I give my own. Your child does not need to hear that they are smart or that they are dumb; they need to hear and (eventually understand) that all things worth having require effort.

And finally, They Don't Pay Me Enough To Do This Anymore. I'm Outta Here.

See where I'm going with this?

THIS!!! Just because you were once a student and went to school doesn't mean you know how to teach!

Um, are you really that dense? Most everyone was once a student and went to school. A teacher goes to college and graduate school to learn pedagogy and methodology (just like a lawyer goes to school to learn the law, a doctor to learn medicine, etc.).

I think you are missing her point. You are actually AGREEING with what she just said. Sheesh!

I just hope that the PP who wrote the comment in bold is not a teacher.
