This one's hilarious. You never know if they are in the ER with a broken hip or simply require technical assistance with their iPad so they can keep playing Wordle.

My IL’s are notorious for this. Do they need help with their WiFi routers or an app on their iPads or is someone back in the hospital? It’s a fun surprise!

Instead I'm choosing to reflect on how I can treat my kids better than the way I was treated, and what I can do to make my golden years easier for all of us.

me too.

Despite my father working for 35 years as a biglaw partner, my parents refuse to spend any money on lifestyle, other than going out to eat and ordering takeout. They have minimal expenses and I really want to see them enjoy their money before they can't anymore. I keep encouraging them to take a big vacation (I'll watch the dog! We can drop you off and pick you up at the airport! Let me figure out an itinerary!).

I am the Uber, the handy-man, the chef, and the personal shopper. I also have my own husband and children. I am exhausted.

My parents aren’t Boomers, they are Silent Gen, born in the 30s. So, they are old and this is not a fun time, for any of us.

I am the offhand mention from my father that "your mother was in the ER last night, but she's home now"

what was the age difference of your parents?

My dad born in 1945, is 81 and is silent. My mom born in 1948 is boomer.

Yep. It’s silly to use a specific time stamp. There are silent generation, boomer and Gen X parents who are in poor health and many in great health. As we all get older it can go either way. My mother is silent generation I guess, 82, and is in incredible health. She lives alone, she’s a widow now and raised six kids. She has helped me her whole life with babysitting, cleaning, just being there. I never asked her to clean she just always come to the house early and couldn’t sit still. No housekeeper when she’s capable of doing it herself. Any way a person can stay active and useful gives you better odds of staying in better shape as you age.

I feel bad for the posters who had bad relationships with their parents and hope they can break that cycle.
