I don't think you realize what was going on. In England at that time, the supertax rate they qualified for was 95%. Yes, 95%. We are arguing about tax rates in the 35% range. Socialist countries today like Norway and Sweden have a top tax rate of 55%.

There is a huge difference between the government taking some of your money vs. taking nearly all of it.

George Harrison wrote Taxman, not Lennon. He was upset by the marginal tax rate that they, as Brits, were paying: 95%. It rather puts our whining over 39.6% to shame, no?

That is the biggest bunch of bullshit I have ever heard. Illegal immigrants don't even vote, moron. And immigrants are the reason that we are a country of competitors and risk takers and winners. Immigrants gave us our biggest business successes. True 100 years ago, and true today. Yesterday's Carnegies and Bells are replaced by today's Brins, Groves, and Omidyars, Kluges, and Koshlas. Immigrants are here to better themselves, and that means producing. In the end, immigrants are doing the heavy lifting.

Soft is a bunch of people who don't do much more than their parents did. Daddy was a lawyer, and he gave birth to a lawyer. Great, we have ensured that we don't run out of lawyers. Soft is doing 10% better than your daddy and investing what he left to you while you live beyond your paycheck. Meanwhile there are children of immigrant busboys who become billionaires.
