And Stony Brook |
Is that true? Do they list the publications. There are only like three top CS conferences, so the easiest way to figure this out is if they published the list of who was invited and their universities (understanding not all can attend, which is why you want to see the invites). The harsh reality in general is that research from private companies is now far more influential because universities don’t have anything approaching the budget needed to do the leading edge CS research anymore and top professors are going to work in private industry. |
Sounds like you don't know shit at a podunk school. How It Works; Publication Counting: It counts publications at the most selective, top-tier conferences in each area of computer science (e.g., NeurIPS for Machine Learning, SIGGRAPH for Graphics). Adjusted Credit: It uses "adjusted counts," meaning credit for a paper is split evenly among its co-authors. This prevents "ranking inflation" from simply having more authors on a single paper. Faculty-Focused: The system identifies faculty members who are actively publishing in specific research areas, making it a primary tool for prospective PhD and graduate students looking for advisors. Key Features Transparency: All data and the code used to generate the rankings are open-source and available on GitHub. Customization: You can filter rankings by specific sub-fields (AI, Systems, Theory, Interdisciplinary) and by region (USA, Europe, Asia, etc.). Timeframes: You can adjust the years surveyed to see which departments have been most productive recently versus over the last decade. |

The NE advocates on DCUM are amazing.

Someones DC didn’t get in and now they are dissing UMD.. |
The only reason SJSU grads do reasonably well after graduation is due to location. That's pretty much it. I grew up in CA and went to SJSU for CS because I knew I could get a decent paying job after graduation simply because of the location. I also had family living up there, so I didn't have to pay for rent. The school has a good relationship with area tech companies. Does that mean that people should pay oos prices for a CS degree at SJSU over UMD in state? Hell no, especially now a days with how many layoffs are happening in the SV. If one went by this list, one would think SJSU CS majors are smarter than Cal or Stanford CS majors. So, what does this list really reveal? The test is not used by all high tech companies, btw, or quant firms. Look at the list of the companies that use it. |
I see. So, what you are saying is that SJSU (do you even know what system SJSU is part of) is better than all the other great CA universities like Cal, UCLA, UCI, and even better than schools like CMU, Stanford in terms of CS? LOL. Ok. |
I still don’t see anything explaining UMD’s horrible showing. |
UMD was a safety school and of course my kid was accepted. Such a lazy stupid remark that people for some reason think is witty. |
Since you're on an internet forum, I assume you are literate enough (and have 30 seconds of your time available) to ask this of Claude or Gemini or Grok or Chatgpt. If you did, your answer would be made available in milliseconds. I know that is extra work, but like, I mean, you could like try it. |
You are showing your ignorance. UMD CS is no ones safety. |
Yet it was for my kid. Sorry that in fact for some kids it is pretty much automatic if you have certain stats and accomplishments (including as a HS student winning Bitcamp). |
By definition a safety school needs to have more than a 50% admit rate. And we don't know what the CS admit rate but it was maybe until this year under 10%. My kid definitely had the stats too so we were pretty sure they'd get it but definitely didn't consider it a safety. Pretty sure any reputable college counselor would agree with me here. Real question is why you feel the need to come on here to crap on a local state school with an excellent reputation for CS based on a single coding assessment metric. |
Only because this board is filled with VA folks. If you ask CS bros and sisters, they will agree UMD CP is well placed. UVA and VTech are good in other areas, such as VTech's mechanical engineering. But this is talkin about CS. |
How does it compare to this other ranking seen here on another thread: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1322061.page |
