"Nobody" is obviously an exaggeration but serious CS students don't generally apply to Harvard.

CS prof here. CSranking is strictly about faculty' s research output in particular conferences/journals, not at all related to education quality. In this metric, this ranking is very accurate for UMD. UMD has been a top-10 CS research department and graduate program. All the CS faculty is internationally well known.

what would you use for education quality then.

UMD has been near the top of this list for a while

Yes. And now, more and more high achieving Asian-American kids in DMV are opting for CS UMD and ignoring Harvard. So, not surprised that UMD is climbing the ranks for UMD.

My kid chose UMD over higher ranked colleges in this list because he got a world class education for pennies. He is graduating with an amazing job. And no one that he is friends with in his UMD cohort is without a $150K+ job.

Purely looking at No11,

11.Northeastern University
11.Stanford University

it's hard to believe this ranking.

Northeastern #11 again impressive performance.

An Ivy may take 1 out of 100's of exact same ability and academic merit/record/achievement students, because they want some kind of fake diversity based on who plays the Ukulele with their ass and/or some trauma story.

Where do you think the rest of these kids go to? More and more go to their state flagship. So in terms of sheer volume of extraordinary kids - UMD has space for more students doing CS than any of the smaller schools. UMD CS student body is 10x the number of MIT-worthy students who did not get picked by MIT because they were not the right racial demographics.

So, is it a surprise that UMD is killing it. And yes, there are a bunch of students at UMD CS who have turned down other schools in this list above UMD, because the cost did not make sense for in-state students or the ones that UMD provided full scholarship.

My kid was a BK - (my kid was business) many BK kids he is friends with had great job opportunities- in 2024 and 2025. UMD is that good for CS- and a steal for in stat residents-

Ignore the Virginia people - they get their panties in a bunch easily if they aren'tat the top of every list.

My VIRGINIA kid is a junior at UMD as a CS major. We're not all delusional.

I am confident UMD offers excellent education. This is a straight faculty publication quality ranking. Most tenured research faculty do not teach much and typically find that teaching takes away time for research. In terms of CS education quality, UMD might be too large. Maybe CMU is smaller? I have no idea.

Just idiots revealing that they have zero idea about what CS is and the areas in which these colleges conduct research. Most are ignorant of AI/LLMs/cryptography/distrib systems/computation bio, stats, robotics, theoretical CS, etc.

The same idiots who would say Harvard is better than CMU for AI or I can't believe Northeastern is above Brown or Yale should be number one or Purdue has nothing on WashU.

+1.

NE is probably the most skilled university at gaming college rankings among all universities located outside China
