My son has had a single since beginning in his sophomore year. He had a miserable freshman year with a roommate who wasn’t a bad person but they were a bad match.
If your child joins clubs and makes an effort to be social, a room is just where you sleep. My son’s grades went up once he had a single dorm room and could sleep soundly and study in peace |
| Honestly, I think singles are underrated. |
| My DD had a horrible roommate first year - she will be a senior in the fall. The only positive I can think of with the awful roommate and suitemates was the fact that she learned to advocate for herself and confront uncomfortable situations, which will prepare her well for life. |
| I had a single and regret it. Roommates really do become your best friends at college. I was worried about it and shouldn't have been. |
they're the same price at many schools. they're hard to get, but it's not usually a price thing. (it should be!) |
| DS is a freshman and got a suite with 4 singles and 2 bathrooms. Couldn't be happier. He choose whom and went he wants to invite to his room which happens often. At night he shares his single with his girlfriend of 6 months. She has a double so his room is paradise. |
Yes, THIS is the perfect combo - three to six singles with a common room. Rare, tho, unfortunately. |
Not rare at WashU, but please don't tell Emory Mom 🤫 https://www.princetonreview.com/college-rankings/?rankings=best-college-dorms https://www.niche.com/colleges/search/best-college-dorms/ |
