Yes a covering helps, but the wind might blow it off. If you have a way to secure your car cover, go for it.

WARNING - A warning is issued when a hazardous weather or hydrologic event is occurring, imminent or likely. A warning means weather conditions pose a threat to life or property. People in the path of the storm need to take protective action.

ADVISORY - An advisory is issued when a hazardous weather or hydrologic event is occurring, imminent or likely. Advisories are for less serious conditions than warnings, that cause significant inconvenience and if caution is not exercised, could lead to situations that may threaten life or property.

WATCH - A watch is used when the risk of a hazardous weather or hydrologic event has increased significantly, but its occurrence, location or timing is still uncertain. It is intended to provide enough lead time so those who need to set their plans in motion can do so. A watch means that hazardous weather is possible.

Are we receiving text alerts or needing to compulsively check ?

We've had "Severe Thunderstorm" Warnings since Sunday, but "Tornado" warning only briefly Monday morning (and probably more coming later Monday).

The minute a tornado warning is issued, go to basement

It’s been super mild here in Sterling/Eastern Loudoun. And CWG says we are done by 3. So I think nothing burger here.

That would be amazing. It’s a little early to call.

This is nothing in Arlington

There’s really nothing in my Rockville-area neighborhood either; a couple heavy downpours, minimal wind and it actually looks like the sun is trying to come out. Maybe we missed the worst of it? I logged all of my outdoor furniture inside this morning but it’s been less windy than a garden-variety thunderstorm. Hopefully it remains a nothing-burger!

Why did the county make the decision around 2pm to close early? Isn't it obvious by now that the second line isn't coming? I'm so confused. I would have understood it more if the decision came out at 8am when things were still up in the air.

Seems like it’s just rain and all hype in Fairfax County. I’ll admit that I kind of like when the power goes out (for like an hour or two).

Same in DC. I know there is a second band coming between like 5 and 9pm so obviously we'll be watching for that, but my understanding is that the wind and tornado risk was heavier for the earlier band (due to the storm band hitting high temps of 60-70 degrees as it passed) but there was just nothing here.

Not counting my chickens but I will not be disappointed if we got all worked up for nothing.

Same. Was that it?

Are y’all complaining or noticing? It’s hard to tell. I’m relieved nothing has happened so far.

I’ll take the nothingburger with a side of cheese fries & rootbeer
