I can't deal with the stress of this. Our house is tall and narrow, heavy winds scare me. I don't actually want to be home during the storm but there's nowhere else to go. I am trying to convince DH that we should get a hotel room. I know I'm being ridiculous but also the unknowability of what might happen is making my skin crawl.

This is too much.

You left out the part where you have huge monster trees in your vicinity. Absent those, you have nothing to fear. The likehood of a direct tornado hit on your house is remote, even with the unusually elevated risk we're going to have tomorrow.

PP here, and we have a huge tree right in front of our stupid skinny house.

So for someone who is more versed in weather forecasting than me- how are we not under a wind advisory if the winds are forecast to be so bad? Parts of Balitmore and lots of the northeast are but not DC or immediate counties. No tornado watch or severe thunderstorm watch either.

+1 would also like to know this

Wind events when the trees have no leaves yet are not as scary. Just bring possible projectiles inside so they don’t blow through someone’s windows.

Is there a time frame in which this will start? I am at work and left my stuff on the deck so I want to go home to bring it inside at a decent time.

Odd that NWS has not put any watches or warnings -- other than the waterman's warning put out Monday at 09:54.

My kid is on a plane headed here from another country. They haven’t cancelled their flight. It’s supposed to get here at 3pm right when the storms hit. I am scared to death. How are all flights not cancelled?

From what I’m reading it seems like the worst of it will be between 3-6 and there is tornado potential, but with so many factors in the atmosphere at play it seems difficult to predict.

I could see some areas really getting hit hard, but then others will have people thinking this was overhyped. Either way, better to be prepared. I’m staying home all day and just hoping for no significant damage or prolonged power outages.

Firing all the experts has consequences.

Worst case, flights will be diverted.

Please tell people about this. I posted that it’s not showing in the Apple weather app, it just says high winds. Usually they have a warning and a link to the Capital Weather Gang. Truly scary!

There are elsewhere though- much of SW VA south to FL are under tornado and/or severe thunderstorm watch. And a lot of the NE, including the DelMarVa peninsula, is under a wind advisory. Is this event just being overhyped for the DC area?
