Firing all the experts has consequences.

There are elsewhere though- much of SW VA south to FL are under tornado and/or severe thunderstorm watch. And a lot of the NE, including the DelMarVa peninsula, is under a wind advisory. Is this event just being overhyped for the DC area?

CWG explained it well. There will be the ingredients for severe weather but having all the ingredients doesn't necessarily mean anything will happen. But with the kids and such it's better to be cautious.

DP- but isn't that what a "watch" is for? Not everybody reads CWG analyses.

Tornado watch for Maryland counties.

Reminder:

Watch is "stay alert" (conditions are ripe for tornado development).

Warning is "take action" (tornado has been seen in the vicinity).

TORNADO WARNING until 11:45

West central MoCo
Eastern Loudoun County

But still nothing for DC. It's kind of baffling.

Warning? like there are active tornados there?

The lines of storms are really narrow and are focused on areas west and north right now. Looks like the tornado warning is over Clarksburg and Damascus right now and headed more in that direction vs. toward DC.

I mean this with all sincerity, some of you all should consider anti-anxiety medications.

There's a tornado watch now but yeah they seemed kinda slow- the watch was essentially issued at the same time as the warning for Loudon/MoCo. My parents were not really taking this seriously until they got the alert on their cell phone so I'm glad it's out there now.

I am trying to convince DH that we should get a hotel room. I know I'm being ridiculous but also the unknowability of what might happen is making my skin crawl.

This is too much.

You left out the part where you have huge monster trees in your vicinity. Absent those, you have nothing to fear. The likehood of a direct tornado hit on your house is remote, even with the unusually elevated risk we're going to have tomorrow.

PP here, and we have a huge tree right in front of our stupid skinny house.

Our neighbors do and they refuse to trim it. I hope it comes down on their house.

There is no tornado watch showing up for DC on my phone app, and I always get those.
