No we would get notice by tonight

It used to be early releases had to be announced by 11 am to allow for buses to get to the middle schools on time.

11 would be late....they need to get all three school levels home. Cutting it close.

Actually it was in June of 2012. School was already done. It hit the DC area around 9:30pm.

Very tough call for FCPS. I feel for them. Noone want to close schools.

I'm seeing a morning round and an evening round starting at 3-7?

I see it forcasted to possibly begin as early as 10:00 am and the risk ramps up at 12:00 - 8:00 pm/

Early release seems to be also hazardous. I think they should just hold school as normal and then hold children at school if conditions are bad. Schools have enough food just in case they need to hold staff and students into the evening.

Per Capital Weather game: "The storms’ timing still needs to be pinned down, but they are most probable between about 1 and 7 p.m. Monday, when an organized and violent squall line is expected to pass. That said, widely scattered showers and storms, some of which could be intense, are possible before this window, as early as 9 or 10 a.m"

Hoping to get extra free time away from your kids I see. Maybe they’ll even feed them dinner for you! Good plan!

They can’t hold staff into the evening.

Depends on how long the tornado warning lasts. If it lasts an hour, great, then everyone gets to leave. If it lasts a few hours, no one is allowed to leave.

Per the boad docs: "If a warning is received near or during dismissal, the release of students shall not
occur until the expiration of the warning."

They have done it before — late busses at the elementary level and the teacher stays. When the #CloseFCPS debacle happened, middle school teachers that had arrived had to stay and supervise until the busses got back to pick the kids back up.

Parents are allowed to pick up students if there is a still a warning, but no buses or staff can leave.

Pfft. You really think the 3 and 4 year old preschool kids, the SPED kids and the low functioning ASD kids, and Kindergarteners should stay at school until after dinner with their teacher?
I call bluff on this one.

Administrator here: any staff member who wants to leave and drive during a tornado warning is free to go. I’m not stopping anyone. We’ll take care of the students.

Early release does not make anything safer. Either close or just hold school as normal.
