Looks like another lawsuit against MCPS is coming...

Disparate impact is meritorious. You may not like it because Asians aren’t the “right” race to complain but governments are supposed to comply with Civil Rights law.

The loudest, most vocal and annoying demographic about this decision has been the very group that is filing this lawsuit. This lawsuit is bullshit and they know it. But they will use the Civil Rights Act, enacted on the backs of Black people, to advance their cause even if it hurts the people that gave them the right to sue. For example, see the Supreme Court affirmative action case. And I hope this bites them in the ass just like the Supreme Court decision did. Mark my word, they WILL lose.

Yea just like how MCPS did amazing winning their Supreme Court lawsuit right? Last I checked, MCPS got their asses handed to them in the Supreme Court. They were so out of their depth, they hire attorneys from WilmerHale. A partner at WilmerHale charges anywhere between $1k-2k an hour… it’s likely higher given the Supreme Court attention. Your taxpayers money hard at work folks. And lol ofc MCPS lost the lawsuit, good job! You are so right MCPS is so good at litigation.

Look up the Supreme Court decision on affirmative action my friend. The landscape has completely changed. We’re finally moving away from this woke bullshit.

Thank you. Out of one side of their mouth, “We are the smartest demographic at Wootton and if it wasn’t for us, Wootton wouldn’t have its outstanding reputation!” And then out of the other side of their mouth, “We are too illiterate and dumb to understand the boundary process!”

Pick a position and stick to it

If you knew Wootton, this actually makes sense. Predominately Asian, lots of Asian immigrants.

Having been raised by Asian immigrants, I’m not joking when I say excelling in school wasn’t optional. Tiger parenting is real.

That said, my parents to this day barely speak English but they sure knew the difference between As and Bs on report cards and 1500 vs 1400 on the SAT.

Lmao not MCPS coming for the school that has literally the most amount of tiger parents 😂. MCPS be wilding if they thought these parents would just roll over. 🍿

To be fair, the administration has also demonstrated a willingness to ignore their own policies and precedents when they think it suits them.

But I don't see how intervening here suits them politically. It doesn't help them in Montgomery County and this isn't an issue with national interest.

It’s a layup right in the administration’s backyard and a chance to embarrass Jamie Raskin and possibly Wes Moore (who has national ambitions). DOJ doesn’t have to intervene - it just needs to open an investigation.

You are way too caught up in your own feelings here. It doesn't "embarrass" Jamie Raskin that a school district may or may not have fully communicated with the parents of Emerging and Multilingual Language learners, or at least not with the Trump base.

You think a predominantly Asian Asian complaint about not being able to maintain a plurality Asian American school, but instead having to attend school with rural white students is going to fly with the people who elevate these issues onto MAGA's radar?

+ This completely

I'm just baffled and maybe a little saddened by the idea that Wootton folks think the Trump Administration is going to save them. Do they really think that the administration who is perfectly fine arresting Hmong men in their bathrobes is going to take up the cause of the Asian American community? Moreover, that the SPEAK ENGLISH contingent is going to worry about whether Vietnamese immigrants understood the boundary discussion?

Again, this is only one group - but republicans would like to gain Asian votes across the country, so this is a great example of blue state mismanagement.

And they won’t send their kids to Crown, no matter what Taylor wants to call it. Wootton as we’ve known it will be gone. Taylor’s plan to have a highly intelligent families buy into the biotech/pharm hub at Crown will never materialize.

All of this is giving me flashbacks to Mahmoud v. Taylor. When “liberals” who claim to love minority groups were outraged with Muslim families didn’t want LGBTQIA+ curriculum shoved down their kids throat.

What’s a liberal to do…with such conflicting ideals?

Do yall only care about minorities when they are black and brown? Would you feel the same way if Wootton was predominately Asian and they didn’t provided Spanish translation? Interesting how MCPS did provide Spanish translation but not Chinese Korean Hindi etc. even when Wootton is 40% Asians

Guess we only care about civil rights for the some kids 🤷🏻‍♀️

Predominantly Hispanic I meant

Imagine the outrage if Wootton was 40% Hispanic and Korean but not Spanish was provided as translations…

+1

MCPS has a terrible track record in litigation recently. MCPS has a way out of this mess by leaving Wootton alone and using Crown as a holding school. The Asian complaint goes away. No need to change Wootton’s boundary. No multi-million dollar moving expenses. Crown can develop its student body organically. Who knows, maybe Crown will develop into an amazing school all on its own. No need to transplant Asians.

Are you seriously implying that because civil rights act was enacted on the backs for black people, only black kids should sue MCPS for racial discrimination???

So civil rights claims are just for black kids? Cool take.

Liberals consider Asians to be white for purposes of college admissions, so you expect anything different from MCPS?

That is what the PP is saying. Asians have no need for civil rights protection because they’re successful.

Documents and presentations with respect to boundary study particularly option H, which made the wild claim of closing/moving a predominately Asian school, were never provided translations beyond Spanish
