Are we pretending like these football players aren’t offered in 8th-9th grade before stars are given out?
Bama has their list of kids well before stars, once a kid gets Bama offer they then jump up. True he doesn’t care about stars, the Bama brand is enough |

There's some great takes on this thread.
IMO do ratings matter? Yes and no. I think the ratings generate exposure for a player. Maybe player was not on coaches radar before and now takes a look at them because of rating. But end of the day, coaches will evaluate the player and make their own conclusion. There are also great players who don't go to events and don't get rated. These are the "under the radar" players. In general, I would say most top players do get noticed, and at some point attend an event where IL can give them evaluate and give a rating. |
On balance and over time, and especially when a player gets multiple ratings, its seems to align with comparative play on the field. On a one time basis, I have seen girls who are clearly top 25-50 in the class get relatively low numerical ratings in an individual evaluation--including a couple who will likely be "top 10" on Inside Lacrosse. On the other hand, I have also seen ratings and IL reports from events that don't have a high concentration of top players that seem kind of overweighted--maybe based on solid play against a dearth of competition. That said, at an event like Best in Class where the standout list is a who's who, they generally get the group of standouts right, although there are still variances in descriptions and ratings. So, individual reports are a a bit of a crapshoot; body of work seems to generally align. All that said, with recent classes, few disagreed with players in IL top 20, but there were also lots of girls that were non-4 stars who were recruited by top programs and will or are succeeding in college. Lastly, I would be cautious in assuming you know where a player stand versus peers this winter versus, for example, the summer season. Some of these girls are making huge leaps. Athletically, early versus late bloomers are balancing out, and skill and lax IQ are coming forward. |
This 100% |
I was describing players I know who I have seen play for years. I know where they stand. I trust my lying eyes more than some IL evaluation coming from a snapshot view during a 2-day camp. Please. |
