Reach/Target/Likely list - any thoughts?

Emory Goizueta as a low reach?

Yes, I'm sure he'd get in too, just trying to make sure the likely that he applies to is one he'd be excited about, so a longer list to curate through and then visit a few would be helpful.

JMU has a good honors program.

I would Ed either usc or wake. Wake would be a good Ed he would probably get into.

Agree. 75th percentile last fall had a 4.5 and a 1510.

I hear you on the SAT piece. But the GPA is highly dependent on school. At some schools there are so many weighted classes that kids are graduating with 4.7+ GPAs. At our school - which sends dozens of kids to UVA every year, it’s not possible to get higher than a 4.5, and that’s if you got all As and took every single IB and AP class offered. And I know some of the kids getting into UVA from our school had weighted GPAs between 4 and 4.3.

So I think a 4.2 is possible. A reach, yes. But still possible.

No, Goizueta isnt direct entry and a 1490 is low for Emory.

LOL, it’s test optional.

He's interested in applying to the business schools at these places, or perhaps political science/econ.

Weighted GPA 4.2, SAT 1490. Unweighted GPA is 3.97 (two Bs in freshman year, maybe a B in an IB class this year). IB Diploma candidate. Top GPA possible at our school is between a 4.4-4.5 because we don't offer a ton of AP classes and honors classes aren't weighted. Virginia resident, public school.

I'd love to know if there are other schools that should be on our list based on these schools. We especially need some more "likely" schools.

Reach:
University of Southern California Marshall School of Business
Georgetown
UVA
William & Mary
Wake Forest

Target:
University of Pittsburgh
University of Washington
Lehigh
Villanova
Loyola Marymount (in LA)

Likely:
JMU
CNU
University of Delaware (?)

So a near perfect GPA and SAT. And JMU and CNU are just “likely”? I’d figure they'd be 100% lock with possibly full scholarship. No?

No thoughts.
Oh except these questions are so overdone and ridiculous!

Your reaches are impossible with these stats.

Kid has an unweighted GPA of 3.97. Don't compare weighted GPAs to how it is done at your school. Kid has a chance at every school on list.

OP, you don't need *more* likelies unless your child just doesn't like these. If does, you are all set. In fact, strongly recommend applying to Pitt very early and then, once accepted, don't bother with anything he likes less on list.

Suggest the following low targets:
TCU
Fordham

For safeties, your in-state publics.

Villanova business is vastly overrated. No pipeline to IB or MBB
