Thanks! Will check them out with her.

Scranton is a terrible fit other than maybe offering a Japanese minor.

I did say I was only looking for Japanese and not too far.

It’s fine if it isn’t actually a fit.

Why would you want a suggestion that doesn't seem like a fit?

This is OP. I didn’t write the above quote. We are looking for a hard combination of smaller school, Japanese as a major or minor, music or musical theatre and graphic arts.

She’s heavily leaning towards Japanese as a major with Graphic arts as a minor at E-town and continuing music in clubs and choirs.

E-town doesn’t have theatre anymore and it makes me sad to see her stop performing. She’s really happy on stage.

Ursinus and UMary Washington may be good fit.

I really wished UMW had the programs my daughter was looking for, as I think it would have been a nice option for her. In the end, Radford was the only in state school that had the mix she was looking for.

I really hope your daughter finds her perfect fit

We're all various shades of autistic in my house, and neurodivergence was/is not a consideration for size, location or style of college. What mattered for our oldest, who is now a junior in college, was whether the disability office would be forthcoming with accommodations, some of which are standard academic ones, and one which is a single dorm room with private bath. He got all his accommodations at George Washington, a private university in DC, but I imagine that many institutions do this as well. He just liked GW best. He loves that it's integrated in the city and the size doesn't bother him at all - he came from a large overcrowded public school, and as long as he has his own space, he's good.

My teen DD will also qualify for this accommodation as well, if she chooses to request it. She's the opposite: she wants forests and greenery and no urbanization!

Ohio native here and if you are having trouble chasing down schools with decent Japanese programs, many smaller colleges in and around central Ohio will have good options. Honda has had a major presence north of Columbus for ~40 years and brought generations of suppliers, families and other businesses with it. There are more Japanese resources in the area than one would expect, partly because it also created spawned some robust HS Japanese programs in the area.

Not a small college but at least a small town, and piggybacking off the Ohio idea:

What about Kent State? Very strong languages, and people sleep on their fashion and design degrees. I don’t know if they have a digital design program that stands alone, but I have heard good things about their Animation and Game Design degree. Everyone who I knew who has gone there either went straight into design or fashion in NYC or is on the spectrum or both.

You would have to drive across PA which would be a pain. Car not necessary on campus, though.

I’ll check it out! MIL graduated from Kent State. My husbands family is from Ohio. Further out but worth it if we can find a good fit.

She’s 6 years into Japanese including 9 dual enrollment credits so I know she wants to continue studying in college.

One thing to consider for ETown is that language majors have to spend a full year abroad (at least that was the case three year ago when my dd applied).
