Wait, some of you on DCUM are really smart!

If you were really that smart you'd not have fallen for OP's BS post.

I liked the one where everyone said their college pedigrees and where their kids went to school, though

You have to admit that was a fun one on what it supposed to be an otherwise anonymous forum

It was like the Rubik’s cube of posts where everyone was sort of like my dad and mom went here and we went there and you should all be impressed by us

But the one about my having 4 nieces and nephews who are all at/going to be at the same college ED was true. How many applications are too many? Too Few? They really did 4 and 4. But no one here cares about that college.

It was just my poke at … your kids are your kids. They can thrive wherever they go.

If they aren’t going to thrive, they will F up anywhere. If they are going to thrive, they will lap any of their peers who got sent to a place just to party.

Ah and then the nasty Nelly with the associate’s degree and inferiority complex shows up with a retort about as sophisticated as the previously mentioned “you idiot.” Perfectly on cue.

One of the dumbest persons I knew in HS got a PhD and is a college professor today

She was really not that smart

She was really good at one thing and went to a college where they did that one thing as a top college sport

Like say, squash

But they had to keep her at the college and so she ended up teaching a subject and ended up calling herself a professor

So you are the smartest one in the room then? Even more predictable.

At a certain point these days and particularly in humanities academia etc. specifically, they are trying to find ways to keep you as students filling their department so it doesn’t get eliminated.

Think of the laments over no one knowing how to write letters, have good penmanship, skills in cursive, have good stationary, etc. play the piano, be able to entertain, have to read aloud … like that’s all old.

Being able to ride or handle a horse used to be a basic skill. Being able to bake a sourdough loaf used to be a daily thing.

This site and others like it are holding up the fiction that the major participants calling everyone dumb and nouveau riche wouldn’t be completely beholden to anyone who would put the power and circenses back on, if they were to go suddenly dark.

Or maybe she's good enough at one subject to get a PhD and teach it. And smart enough to know she can make a decent and respected living doing this...and maybe doesn’t have a lot of other options.

She would not have continued to compete in grad school or as a professor...so not sure what the athletic connection past undergrad is.

I read heavy $h!t all day at work, so I come here to veg.

Posters on here are much smarter than the average online user. I come here for the insights of professional women and have learned so much as a working mom from a no collar background (my parents had no education and didn’t work, which is even worse than blue collar!).

Lot of self-congratulatory back patting going on in this thread. Kind of sad and pathetic, but not unexpected.

I was the last person in my class to tell time. I was the first one to read. We all have our things…

+1. Although the quality of responses has declined considerably in the last several years. I miss the days when DCUM was mostly full of highly educated DC-area posters.

I still visit but less frequently. The board is becoming more like Reddit everyday as the demographic changes.

Thank you for making me think.

It's just "author", you don't need to add "book" that's tautological.

Not in my field where you can also write lots of articles.

DP. Both of those people are authors. It's uselessly precise to specify book.

Agree, it gets more stupid everyday. The good thing is I spend a lot less time on it because most discussions tend to devolve into petty discourse, bent on insulting the OP or other posters.
