One of the dumbest persons I knew in HS got a PhD and is a college professor today

She was really not that smart

She was really good at one thing and went to a college where they did that one thing as a top college sport

Like say, squash

At a certain point these days and particularly in humanities academia etc. specifically, they are trying to find ways to keep you as students filling their department so it doesn’t get eliminated.

Think of the laments over no one knowing how to write letters, have good penmanship, skills in cursive, have good stationary, etc. play the piano, be able to entertain, have to read aloud … like that’s all old.

Being able to ride or handle a horse used to be a basic skill. Being able to bake a sourdough loaf used to be a daily thing.

This site and others like it are holding up the fiction that the major participants calling everyone dumb and nouveau riche wouldn’t be completely beholden to anyone who would put the power and circenses back on, if they were to go suddenly dark. [/quote]
