+1
Jersey is the way to go if driving. You cut out a lot of potential city traffic. Hoboken has direct service to Midtown. Jersey City requires a transfer.
Only issue with Jersey is that if you want to take a break during the day- such as clean and freshen up before dinner, you’re limited. Also, was in NYC once and got caught in rain showers, so we had to go back to hotel for dry clothes. Harder to do that if you’re in Jersey.
Not if your hotel is next to a PATH station. Hoboken to Penn Station is 15 minutes. Exchange Place to WTC is 5 minutes. Ride times are very close to Long Island City plus the benefit of not having to drive through the city to get to your rental (and drive through it again to get back.)
Hard disagree. If I am visiting NYC, I am staying in NYC. The only exception might be is if all I’m doing is going to some kind of event and not doing anything else in the city.
Have you been to Hoboken? It may as well be part of NYC. It's historic, walkable, has lots of upscale shops and restaurants, and is a quick train or ferry ride from Manhattan (plus there are fantastic skyline views). I'll give you that Jersey City is significantly less charming (as is LIC). In any event, LIC is "the city," but if you're intending to spend a lot of time in Manhattan it's just a matter of which train you want to ride on . . . the PATH or the 7 train.
