We're going to NYC for new year, and not finding anything under about $350 a night. So, just as the topic says, got any tricks for the big apple on high-demand dates? Flexible on neighborhood, could even do Brooklyn.
You are lucky at $350 then. Is it safe and clean?
Stay in Hoboken. I know, I know, but you can get a nice clean hotel room just a 10 minute train ride over for a lot less
Try Long Island City. It's a short subway ride into midtown. The area isn't the nicest, but I didn't feel unsafe as a solo female at night.
I liked the Brooklyn Holiday Inn pretty well last year when I went to an event at Barclay’s. But getting into Manhattan takes time.

$350 is about as good as you will get for NYC. For that price, you won’t get much- micro room with small double beds. The only “trick” might be to go during the off-season on a weekday.
It's closer to Downtown than is Central Park. |
Double Tree by Hilton downtown near Battery Park. Subway right across the street, view of the Statue of Liberty and in the 200s. Rooms are nice, clean and not even that small.
We stay in Jersey or else New Rochelle.
Agreed. I have been looking for that time also. If you are comfortable with Harlem, I think there are deals up there, at a newish Marriot property near the subway, but it is not a great neighborhood. Otherwise, the suburbs it is. |
We stayed in Long Island City last visit (at a friends house) and it was pretty convenient for heading into the city. I would stay there again.
Someone on another thread suggested shared bathroom accommodations.
Book early.
