So they don’t have to pay staff overtime to come and clean up snow. So they don’t have to find staff willing to come in and do it.

SSL hours? Strong teens who live within walking distance or close by wanting a workout when they can't get inside the school facilities? Other ideas?

Besides the liability issues here, even if you could get staff (which you’d have to pay) and kids to come out early enough to do this, you can’t Mobilize this fast enough to prevent closure for an overnight/early morning weather event. Plus you’d be asking teens and parents to drive on potentially untreated roads and what parent wants their inexperienced teen drivers doing this. (As of 8:30 this morning road treatment was not yet completed in the county).

There's no liability issue. Buses will be fine, and it is your responsibility if you drive or walk yourself. The snowfall was minimal and probably won't require overtime by the school-based staff. Plows will probably run through lots today.

You’re not responsive to the issue being addressed here which is Sunday morning opening.

Mocosnow has 2 pencils-- 50% chance of delay. Says the snow and ice totals are very different across the county and side streets might be icy. No chance of closure, but delay is possible.

Just read an FB that Damascus High School student lot has been plowed, but the staff parking lot has not. Also, Cedar Grove ES and Woodfield ES have not been plowed yet either.

Damascus area had about 4” of snow.

One thing that needs to be considered is on time means HS kids will be standing at bus stops in the dark and my be in the streets if sidewalks not cleared.

Calling on-time. Since when have they cared about upcounty anyway?

Especially not anything north of Germantown.

That's funny. I thought that the last time they DIDN'T call a snow day, or even a delay, it was because things weren't that bad in Damascus, but down by me in Silver Spring it was very icy and dangerous on the roads.

Huh? Clarksburg here - it WAS bad an dangerous. I'd attribute that one to just plain stupidity.

We live in Western Howard county, not far from Sandy Spring and Olney. We have at least 4 inches of snow here and everything will turn to ice tonight. It may be fine in Bethesda but parts of Moco are not in good shape.

Growing up in Fairfax County myself, I know this area doesn’t know how to deal with these weather conditions! I’m sure MCPS will at least have a 2 hour delay tomorrow.

And you are wrong.

MCPS is Code Yellow: Delayed Opening for Monday, December 15, 2025, with schools and offices opening two hours late. Morning, all-day, and after-school childcare programs may operate as scheduled; families are encouraged to check directly with their childcare provider.
