What makes you think they don’t?

Do your neighbors know how to:

Build a fire
Process a deer/ turkey/ game bird
Frame a simple shed
Install a well pump
Clean load and fire a pistol or rifle

Or do .... anything that doesnt cause a traffic jam at Tysons?

And do those people of Greene County know how to take Metro, order a cocktail in a bar, drive on the Beltway, parallel park, network, or appreciate art?

Whatever is your point? It isn’t like those skills are inherently virtuous and as many people live in urban areas as they do rural ones.

Well, they are more virtuous because they enable people to survive. You may not need those skills now, but if you did need them, it would be a problem for you.

Interesting they are mostly white.
Average income $43,000

No thanks

Why is that interesting in a county that's nearly 80% white?

NP. Do you really need the racial stereotype about SNAP recipients explained to you?

I married a lawyer. I am a lawyer. I live and work in DC Metro area. I can’t tell you how much I yearn for this… all the things you described. Sure, I like finer foods and travel—but this is the stuff that thrills me. Being a “foodie” is not a real hobby, IMO.

While I like travel, work overdid it for me. It turns out I love home and my soil right here. I love my community and I enjoy routine, frequent friendships. (Yes, friendship is more a verb and less a noun).

I’m divorced now— and I look for these characteristics and skills in a potential friend or mate. I’m not the only one who yearns for this.

What is absolutely hilarious is people who live in places like Greene County are complete chickenshits. Things that terrify them:

— Cities
— Gays and trans people
— Corporate branding changes
— Vaccines
— Government

For bunch of tough salt of the earth people, they’re really a bunch of wimps

LOL. Why TF would I care to do any of those things? (aside from build a fire)

It's 2025 and you are seriously out of touch if you think those are important life skills for most Americans.

I think that is a sweeping generalization. Most humans have nuanced fears and joys.

Whatever brings you comfort. I am happy you can think that way. It is probably simple and easy.

A free man never asks permission.

They also often submit tax returns directing the government to use the “billion dollar life insurance policies” associated with the CUSIP numbers allegedly printed on their birth certificates (!) as security for debts the validity of which they deny.

However, this does kill their ability to claim the high ground of taxpayer identity politics.

We live in a society. Get over it.

My dad could do all of those things. I watched him as a kid. I could probably figure it out.

My family from back home can’t/won’t order an Uber. They’re also afraid of most public places because they get weird messaging.

We adapt to our environment as needed.

I grew up in a place like that and am so happy that I no longer live there.

Oops, forgot to add… I’m a woman. And yeah, the field dressing then processing is probably the easiest part of all of that. And I can look online how to install a pump that’s just silly.
