I can do some of those things but not all. And, I can pay someone to do any of those things should I ever need or want any of them done that I cannot. Fairly certain that not many in Greene County could do my job |

Out of touch? No, I’m quite in touch with multiple environments and their demands. Or are you imagining that the rest of the world should model itself on rural Virginia?
So, what happens out there when someone has a crisis, OP? Do you build a shed — or load the pistol? If you call 911, then, maybe, just maybe, you might grow to appreciate a wider range of skill sets than the ones you’re hyping in your post. |
Yep. Recognizing your limitations and being willing to learn will get anyone far in life. |
Why is that interesting in a county that's nearly 80% white? |
And I bet those people don’t know how to live in a multicultural area where not everyone looks, thinks, and prays like them. The whole trope of urban dwellers living in a bubble is such BS. It’s the rural folk who are out of touch in their own bubble. |

Born and raised in DC and a woman I can and have done all of the above (I haven’t processed a deer but have a chicken and fish) with the exception of installing a well pump because I have had no need (public utilities so no well) I could do it with a YouTube video the proper tools and think that my other repair skills make up for it (HVAC, appliance and plumbing repair, car repair etc) they are hobbies and I consider it fun. Having said this, how does not having these skills make one “out of touch” if they are not relevant to your life? Building a shed and skinning a deer do not make someone in touch with anything other than those specific things. So maybe you should move. |
|
I'm a vegetarian and have no interest in learning how to "process" a deer.
|
| Sounds like you need to move there. |
| Are you for reals? Can you make syrup? Tend a beehive? Can you bandage a wound? Assess an infection/treatable or isolate? Get real kid. 2025 be well be happy. |
| My husband doesn’t hunt but he is the handiest guy around. He has literally built a house from the ground up. He can do any home improvement project and fix almost any appliance. He can even repair a car. And, yes build a fire or fence or deck or patio. Unfortunately he doesn’t feel these skills are appreciated by many these days who prefer to hire landscapers, contractors and bring their cars to mechanics. Our own kids have zero interest. |
To clarify, I’m not passing judgement on those who hire help or don’t know how to do these things. We all have different skills that contribute to society. I certainly have a completely different skill set myself. I just wanted to point out that you shouldn’t assume people don’t have these skills. My husband grew up in the DC suburbs but enjoys hands on tasks. |
| I think OP is posting from Romania or Poland or someplace not nearby just to rile people up. |
Born and raised in NYC living in DC and I can do the gun stuff plus the shed and building a fire, also a woman. I can do the fish gutting too, feel like I could process a deer if need be through a YouTube video but...why? These kind of skills always seem like such a class and political cope. I don't need to? He'll, even my deep Southern rooted family member never did this crap, always a guy to call. |
| OP don’t let the DCUM clowns get to you. Your point was clear, people in the DMV should leave their precious bubble and see what life is like in the other parts of their states and America as a whole. |
