It will make every republican go on record as a protector of pedophiles. |
Civil service was a good deal when I joined under GW Bush. |
Wait… so when I went to work for the government a month after the September 11 attacks, I knew that there would be a shutdown in 2025 and we would be held hostage during a pissing contest between the parties? No, sorry. F—- you. Feds are not a bargaining chip. |
This must be AI - no human could possibly write something so non-sensical. You knew where you were “going to work when you went there”? Things were very different when I joined decades ago “If you cave now” - what? Federal workers are not in a stand-off. We are awaiting orders and most of us are furloughed. Or maybe it’s a foreign troll. Or a really stupid American. |
| What if the Ds agreed to pass the CR (through Nov. 21) but said that if the Rs don’t work with them to deal with ACA over the next 3 weeks, they will refuse to pass another CR? That would get us back to work and paid for Oct and most of Nov, and the Ds would still have some leverage with another possible shutdown on Nov. 21. |
If you joined the federal government and you didn’t know that every single solitary year they have a problem passing the budget and that we are furloughed quite often then yeah I’m sorry you didn’t do your due diligence. You know how often a budget has passed on October 1, rarely. What’s even more maddening is that these stupid congress people take the whole month off and then come back and then I’m like oh yeah we don’t have a budget. |
But people need to make a decision during ACA open enrollment season. If Ds agrees now, what if there is another longer shutdown after Nov 21, and the shutdown passes beyond ACA open enrollment season? |
Because the CR is not “clean” |
Open season will happen even if we’re in a furlough status. Feds who are furloughed still do open enrollment. |
Nobody's talking about federal open enrollment, they're talking about the cost of ACA insurance. You know, the thing the shutdown is about? People on those plans need to know how much they're going to pay for their insurance, so they can enroll or not. |
The shutdown is mainly about ACA premium, if it is not resolved before the end of open season. How the hell do people decide if they want to enroll in a plan or not? People need to know the cost before making a decision. Many people cannot afford to enroll without government help, they could miss enrolling a plan if the issue is not resolved before the end of open season. |
This. Democrats have been trying to get republicans to come to the table to resolve this for many many months and republicans refused (and continue to refuse). The democrats have no choice at this point. |
|
I don't know how they can come to agreement on ACA, obviously, GOP does not want to spend that much money on ACA (with massive tax cut, they have to cut spending on many things, including deep cut to ACA), Dems will not agree to take too much funding off ACA.
There are significant differences between the two sides. |
| People on ACA subsidy worries about cost in 2026 can get a job with health insurance. Even Starbucks part time gets you health insurance |
Come on, there are layoffs everywhere, including Starbucks. It is not like... Starbucks will give someone an offer if the person wants to work for Starbucks. There are 22 millions of people on ACA subsidy, while there may be less than 300 thousands Starbucks employees in USA |
