That is *exactly* what is happening now. The only difference is the timing of the paycheck. |
Good point, though the Peters bill also covered contractors (which I support - just pointing out the difference) and only covered back pay to the date of enactment, not pay going forward. Maybe Peters should reintroduce that one and see what Johnson says now. |
Well given the choice of being paid on time, and being paid at some indeterminate point in the future, which would you pick? They should do this. Fed employees are not bargaining chips and their salaries are a drop in the bucket. This is the price the public should pay for a functional government. Put the pressure on Congress, where it should be. |

What is happening is easy.
Republicans will never open the goverenment because they do not want to seat anyone else at the table. If they seat the new Dem Epstein files will be released. Second reason The Heritage Foundation most of you never read Project 2025. So here we are Republicans wasting moneies while Trump rakes in the dough and the National Debt, Inflation and unemployment rise. Republicans have the majority they can end this at any time. If you think they will you have not been paying attention. And Ron Johnson is a Putin loving snake. He voted against opening the government. There is not one Republican that cares about Americans not one. This is on them. |
| You feds are in a tough spot, but you knew where you were going to work when you went there. You need to wait it out so the ACA subsidies can get extended. If you cave now the gop will just use it as an excuse to start firing you. That's facts. |
| I just assume anyone still talking about Epstein from either party is a lunatic at this point. |
Oh shut up. |
No Maga idiot Johnson hasn't seated the next House Rep and we all know why. Why don't you fool? |
LOL, shift has started in the troll mines. |
This is the wrong take. Feds are not the problem don't blame them. Republicans are 100% at fault here. |
All the new rep can do is put the Epstein thing to a vote. It’ll never actually be published. |
I agree and I didn't say that feds are the problem. I said feds will need to wait for their paychecks. Feds are a distraction from the ACA subsidies. This "compromise" is a trap. And the gop is offering it because they are scared. Hold out for the ACA and your salaries will follow. |
I’m 100% supportive of waiting for the GOP to cave, hopefully because they’re getting enormous pressure from their voters. That being said, I’m not sure what you mean by “you knew you where you were going to work when you went there” - nobody could’ve foreseen the Trump idiocy and Republican abject capitulation 15+ years ago when I started. |
Yeah, The Hill is owned by Nexstar. Same people who wanted to cancel Kimmel. |
What are you talking about? This is unprecedented set of events for federal employment. |
