If I were a preschool director I would have a big sign in my office saying "YOUR KID WILL BE TOTALLY FINE AT A BOUGIE UPPER EAST SIDE ZONED PUBILC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SO PLEASE RELAX"

Not experiencing this at all. But we are at a downtown private preschool.

I remember going to an open house of an UWS feeder preschool mentioned on these boards. A current parent was talking about the exmissions process and their stress was palpable (I guess their kid was shy? per the parent, and so many kids were applying to independent schools). I felt bad for this person, but then I also thought to myself - ugh, I don't know if this is the best kind of environment.

I went to one at a feeder and it seemed like every other question from applicants was geared towards the kindergarten placement process or results or summer birthdays. Many in the room were applying for 2s.

I walked away wondering if I was the only one looking pick a preschool for the (several year) experience at the school for my child/family. Is it only about launching to the next step?

In a gilded frame. Prominently hung.

The application process is long and tedious. Having to cast a wide net makes the entire process all the more painful. Spend more time applying for K than college.

Pardon my ignorance but what are the UWS feeder pre-schools?

PCDS and WSMS. There are so many more on the UES.

I didn’t like Trevor day. Something about the place just felt off. The lower school director was not friendly and felt uncomfortable actually engaging. Nice facilities though and well positioned by Central Park but I don’t believe there’s a playground near by and they lack open space for the kids so that was disappointing.

HM was impressive. Really nice and friendly.

My kids are older (middle/high school age) so perhaps my info is dated but back in my day JCC was very hard to get into and had excellent exmissions (though a decent percentage also went public). Might not be TT but very good.

The JCC is not hard to get into now, but they place decently well for kids who want to go to private schools. A lot go to public. Some go to Jewish day schools. But I wouldn’t call the JCC a feeder preschool in the same way PCDS and WSMS are, but I would include Montclare on that list.

Just curious - Is Montclare the biggest feeder for Dalton?

I was very underwhelmed by Montclare. Not a ton of great options on the UWS but I didn't like it. I know a family who went from there to a TT school but they were pretentious.

Montclare does generally send a lot of kids to Dalton. We never considered Montclare, so I don’t have any opinion on it otherwise.
